Would like to know why this is happening …
I guess Plex might know?
Does it mean Plex will no longer support any kind of music streaming service? Seems like that makes it no more a direct competitor of Roon.
As @Suedkiez said, this is a question for Plex and/or Tidal really.
Yes, it will leave Plex with local files only when it comes to music.
It will for sure be a big blow for Plex. They have invested in the Tidal integration and in some areas has taken it further than Roon.
It seems like this decision is on Tidal.
Indeed it feels initiated by Tidal rather than Plex.
Is Tidal cutting costs? Is it gonna mean no integration with Roon either in near future?
I did ask why they had not updated to MAX as it’s been stuck on old Tidal for so long and no hires. Either it’s the dev time to move it as PlexAmp isn’t their main focus or Tidal are no longer partnering with them for some reason. Perhaps those that don’t move on to latest api. Let’s hope it’s not an end to 3rd party access in general. Now they have connect tbh they don’t need them in the way they did and most hardware these days supports connect.
The tidal integration with Plex was dire, in some cases, when added to the library in Plex, a release would show less tracks than it did in the tidal app or Roon. And it wasn’t a case of it being a different version.
Plex is great as a means to reliably listen to your music outside the house, but I quit the tidal integration long before I quit tidal.
Might also be the discount tidal gave Plex customers, almost 10% off I seem to recall, it’s a big discount that amounts to a lot of revenue potentially.
They don’t give Roon users a discount.
Never had that happen. It’s a shame and makes it a less attractive package now as a Roon replacement. Saying that I ditched Tidal anyway but PlexAmp still is more reliable on the go than anything else.
Enormous PLEX fan and I use Plexamp a great deal but have never integrated TIDAL.
Is TIDAL potentially positioning itself for sale?
Maybe Harman is getting ready to acquire Tidal.
Lol here we go with another conspiracy theory thread
that is a looong shot , do not want to contribute speculations … , though it is interesting to see what is actually happening right now in the world of HiFI streaming including HW and SW. It does not look like Plex is quitting Music/Plexamp since it is doing integration in HW like Wiim and Audiolab. Lenbrook’s (Bluesound/NAD) with it’s new streaming service will cover HW+SW(BluOS) and streaming. The SONOS story with one bad SW release shows the importance of (access to) good quality SW to sell HW. I belive, now more than before, that Roon + Harman is better off than Roon alone…
Interesting times ahead.
They didn’t explain why, but a Plex employee on the official forums said it is Tidal’s doing.
Which makes me curious if Roon is next since they are similar services.
If that is the case - coupled with their recent price cut would be a serious discount.
Or PlexAmp
If this is true it would be the really bad.
“As far as I know Tidal is ending all third party integrations”
Bad for users within Roon for sure and bad for Roon generally as it has less appeal.
I hope the new Blue sound service integrates but I wonder if they will want to keep it for their own eco system.
And right after what is quoted in the above preview comes this:
We don’t have info on what deals they made with other services.
Somehow I doubt that Roon made Tidal Max and MQA purging work for just a few weeks.
