Tidal Limitations

Today I accidentally left Tidal playing on Roon, then found I was unable to use Tidal at the gym. It said it was playing on Roon when I hit resume it continued and then stopped playing again. I wonder if Qobuz has this problem, I will move to this service if it doesn’t.

I just tried and I can play in the Qobuz app while Roon plays a different Qobuz track

Yes that works. Roon and Qobuz are playing different music at the same time here.

On the other hand, now I tried with Tidal and I can also play a Tidal track in Roon and a different one in the Tidal app, even if the phone with the Tidal app is in a different network than Roon. At least for the half a minute or so that I tried.

Thanks @Suedkiez appreciated it did play on my phone for one or two tracks then it just kept stopping, at first I thought it was my phone or my network so I power cycled the phone and eventually a message came up saying tidal was playing on Roon click resume to continue, but then it stopped again…

My guess would be it’s Tidal’s single location per account at any given time that’s kicking in. I’m not using the Qobuz app when at work as I am using Roon ARC on my iPhone. Perhaps that will work better in your case as well.

I’m trying for longer

FWIW:

  • With Qobuz I could play a whole album in the Qobuz app (and the phone on 5G) while another was playing in Roon. No issues and I didn’t try longer.
  • With Tidal I also got the “playing in Roon” message in the app after 2 tracks or so
