I’ve set the sort options for names like this:
I’d still expect that sorting by name here:
would also use the globally set last name sort order instead of first name.

Those last name settings are not global though. If they were, you would only have to set it once. Instead, as you’ve shown, you need to set the sort order by name for the Artists and Composers views. Since you are looking at Credits and there is not a setting called “Name for Credits Sorting” the sort order cannot be modified. Which is working as intended, imho.
Are you asking that Name Sort Order be made global, so that all areas use the same sort (which I think is a step backwards), or, are you asking for a new Credit Sort Order be included in Settings?
Hm. It may work as designed (doesn’t it always?) but it conflicts with my expectation (it does sometimes) and that cannot be intended. Also, I think it’s not specific to the composer and artist browser but applies to all (browser) views where you can select browse by name (of artist / of composer). For instance, “Sorted by Artist” in the Album Browser will respect the global artist name sorting (Last or First).
I understand the argument that if there’s no Sorting option for “Credits” (which could be seen as a mixture of Artists and Composers and “unbrowseable” other entities) Roon can apply any Name sorting variant it wants to credits.
But I wouldn’t really see it as a step backward if - when “Artists” are set to sort by Last name globally and considering the fact that most of what’s in a track credits window actually are artists - the global Artist name sort option would apply. (Especially so when Composers are set to sort by Last name as well.)
But maybe the alternative having another setting for Credits sorting would be better - not sure about it.
I guess, my comment was coming from my own library where I sort First Name for Artists and Last Name for Composers. So, Credits being in First Name sort order seemed natural.
When I said backwards, I was referring to combining both Artist and Composer into a single Name sort choice, and loosing the current granularity of having things different between the two.
I agree that having Credits follow the Artist Name Sort Order works.
I’ve moved out to the Feature Request category… I’d like to see this too.
