Describe the issue
I can't connect to Roon Arc when not connected to the Wifi.
Describe your network setup
ISP is MediaCom, I have a personal Orbi Router (the 950 series) coming from my Technicolor modem provided by my ISP. I'm using a Neucleus One as my server and running Arc on a Samsung galaxy S24 ultra.
These are the error messages I'm getting next to "Not Ready"
Hi @r.intaqt,
Thanks for writing in to let us know about this issue. It looks like you need to set up or troubleshoot port forwarding on your network. Try the steps in this article and let me know whether or not ARC begins working properly.
Below is the response to your request. The IP listed for the Roon OS is 192.168.0.228. I also talked to tech support for my router and they helped me set up a static IP for the Roon and now I can’t connect to the Nucleus at all.
When trying to connect the remote to your nucleus do you see a line of gray text saying “Select a different Roon server”? If you do clicking it will bring up a list of available servers on your network. Hopefully your Nucleus will be on that list.
Okay we’ve finally figured out what is going on. ARC is associated with your Nucleus but the only active RoonServer instance now tied to your license is tied to a different machine.
You have two options for how to proceed.
If you have a backup available to you finish migrating to the Nucleus One and perform a server refresh on the UltraSound database. You can follow the below instructions to do that.
Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
Here is the process outlined from a Windows machine:
Then you have to create a manual port forwarding rule in the Orbi router that points to the IP and port in Roon Settings → ARC.
The second option is to just reinstall ARC and see if it can sync with your current active RoonServer, UltraSound . You would still have to create a port forwarding rule, but in this case, it would point to the IP of the Ultrasound PC, not the Nucleus.
I went through the steps above, and I still could not connect to my Nucleus. I also uninstalled all the Roon associated files on Ultrasound and tried to connect on my phone, and I still cannot connect to Roon at all.
I don’t really need Roon on my PC.
This got worse after I spent 3 hours with my Orbi tech support staff setting up the port forwarding. I had them remote access my computer and went through all the Roon trouble shooting steps, and they set up a dedicated IP for the Roon. Now none of my devices can see the Nucleus.
If you enter the system administration page for your Orbi router, you should see the list of devices under BASIC → Attached Devices. According to our servers, there are two active subnets on the network hosting Roon. It’s unclear what steps Orbi tech support might have taken, but if you say they have assigned a static IP address to the Nucleus, then it’s likely on one of these two subnetworks.
Try using an HDMI cable to connect the Nucleus One to a display or screen in the meantime. This should automatically output diagnostic information about the Nucleus One, including the IP address.
