When my brother and I were still children, we slowly turned the neighbor’s free-roaming cat into our own. In the end, he changed families. Without drama. Milk was always the magic thing for him and initially also the convincing argument for joining us. Not very helpful for his digestion, so slow withdrawal was the order of the day. This went reasonably well until one day when we overdid the mixture with water. Too thin! The boy looked into the bowl, then looked at us and then simply whacked the thin mixture with his paw at lightning speed. The stuff was practically everywhere. The message got through.
Garfi is a tamed stray cat who is part of the household since years. It’s rather rare that he goes for “human” food, but milk being poured in front of him was too seductive. Our other cats love to mess around with water at every occasion. For their first birthday we bought them their own fountain for the terrace. One of them even balances on a low hanging tree branch to drink from a pond outside. However we know that he’s a good swimmer since he broke through the ice on said pond past winter.
As kids, we had a cat who would lap up a spoonful of sweetened condensed milk. My father discovered her affection for the stuff. Probably terrible for her, but she lived past 20 anyway. Only went to the vet twice in her long life. Once when she was grazed by a car and, much later, when she fell four stories from my parents’ balcony onto concrete and deflated one lung. She was one tough cat and our first.
And Bailey starting to settle, always a good sign when they are comfortable enough to eat despite a 14 hour drive!
They just know, both look comfortable settling in.
With the cats and presumably Mrs Rimmer in da house, was that the final journey or do you still have to drive 14 cars up there?
Only two cats and myself.
Mrs.Rimmer still earning money in Florida
How long before she joins you, and have you told her where you are living
Hell no!
Told her Arizona
Can never have too much RAM
They are majestic, and despite our locale, we can have 8++ in the neighborhood at times. They almost always have that expression.
I was amazed when I first visited my brother in Kelowna BC from our flat in London and looked out the back garden during breakfast to see a group of 3 or 4 deer calmly sauntering past! My brother, of course, couldn’t stop laughing
