Is there a way of quickly un-check all credits when editing an album? I tag my music manually, and never actually use the credits. On occasion Roon downloads 100+ credits - unchecking those manually is a test of patience to say the least :).
I’m curious as to why you would bother? You don’t need to look at credits and they don’t stop you playing music. I can’t believe they use any relevant CPU resources by being there either.
The credits can be very useful for finding links that were unknown to you.
Fair question! I definitely still use credits, but only want the ones I add manually through tagging (PERSONNEL, COMPOSER etc etc). I tag all my music manually before adding it to Roon.
Settings/Library/Import Settings/Edit
In the Metadata Preferences for Tracks, set the Credits entries to “Prefer File”.
Roon will re-analyse your library and apply the new settings after making this change.
Done that already, Roon still seems to fetch data from the Db. Guess that is an issue for another day, but would be great with a “deselect all” option when viewing the credits.
Just reconfirmed my settings, and the results when importing a new album. Roon definitely still polls credits and adds them, even if I’ve set the library settings to “prefer file”. But this is getting off topic, I assume there is no way to deselect all credits at this point. Is there a way to register it as a feature request somewhere?
There is a Feature Request section in the Forum, it’s a subsection of Roon Software.
Let’s flag @joel and see if the prefer file option for track credits is working as intended.
There’s a reason why the option is called Prefer File: we consider track credits on a category-by-category basis (Composer, Conductor, Ensemble, Main Performer, Performer, Production). For each category, if no credits exist for the preferred metadata source (Roon or File), then they will be sourced from the other (File or Roon) if they exist there.
Composer credits have an additional level of complexity in that there is a distinction between composition composer credits and track composer credits. If we have Roon composition composer credits, but no track composer credits, we will go to File and merge in anything that Roon doesn’t already have*; one reason for this is to cater for track-specific Arranger (Composer) credits.
The behaviour is deliberate and wasn’t implemented on a whim. The reason that Roon applies as much credit metadata as it can is to provide rich, and in many many cases, unknown links between the different albums in your library. E.g. Drummer “Joe Shmoe” played on 7 albums in your library… This is fundamental to the Roon experience today and we’re likely to leverage this even more in the future. At the same time, we are actively working on improving all of our metadata, a significant undertaking and investment by the team.
* As an aside, this is usually the reason why, if you’ve put something like “Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827)” in your COMPOSER tags, it will appear alongside Roon’s “Ludwig van Beethoven” in the composer credits.
Hi, sorry for the super late reply on this matter (turbulent couple of months). Not sure I understood all of that, but I’ll post a feature request of the possibility to either never have Roon add credits or a “deselect all” button.
Thanks.
