I set up port forwarding for Roon Arc before and it worked for a while, I haven’t used it for some time and tried it today, Arc doesn’t work anymore, and some how from the diagnostics data, I saw it show “actual_external_ip”:“99.aaa.bbb.ccc”. I don’t know where this external IP “99.aaa.bbb.ccc” from. In fact, the external IP of my cable modem has IP address “99.199.xxx.xxx” (I masked real IP with x). anyone has clue?
The “aaa.bbb.ccc” part of the ip address is just obfuscating the real ip address so that the diagnostic text can be posted in public (e.g. Here) without causing a security risk.
It appears that your router does not like the structure of the uPnP request made by the Roon Server.
Did you configure that port forwarding rule manually?
If so, and if the internal ip address (192.168.50.106) is the correct ip address for your Roon Server, then you don’t need uPnP.
Try disabling uPnP and see where you get. If it still does not work, post the updated diagnostic text here.
hi Wade, thanks for your help. Roon Arc is able to connect to Roon Core after disabling upnp on Asus router and then reboot the router. I can see the list of albums, however it says “poor connection” when trying to play a song. My cellphone uses wifi and on the same network of Roon Core, my Internet network is also 1G bandwidth, not sure why it says “poor connection”.
Firstly, ARC should alway work when connected to your home WiFi. In this situation local network access is employed and port forwarding is not required.
In order to test the ARC port forwarding setup, you need to turn off WiFi on your phone so that it is using the cellular service and is thus on a different network.
With regard to the low bandwidth, if you see it when ARC is connected to your home WiFi, then it is most likely a WiFi issue. WiFi can be very variable and can suffer from congestion issues if it is used a lot.
With that in mind, there are some questions that need answering.
How is your Roon Server connected to your router? Wired ethernet, WiFi, wired ethernet to a WiFi access point?
Do you get the low bandwidth warning when using ARC to listen to local library content or just streamed (Qobuz/Tidal) music?
If the issue occurs on local library music, is that music stored on the Roon Server itself or is it stored on another computer/NAS and accessed by the network?
If you are using Network Addressed Storage, how is the device hosting that storage connected to the network?
Finally, if you turn off WiFi on your phone and use your cellular service (assuming you get a good service at home), do you still get poor band width? I this situation, your home WiFi should not be involved.
The last thing to check is the streaming quality settings in Roon ARC. On your home network ARC should be able to stream at more or less any setting. However, you could try turning it down to the lowest setting and then gradually increasing the quality setting to see if it worked with lower bandwidth utilisation.
Hi Wade, thanks for your help. I unpluged anything and restart all nodes of my Asus AI Mesh network, and the Arc works fine now. I am able to play music with Arc on my car today.
