Upcoming change to Roon subscription prices (January 1st, 2023)

After much deliberation and watching the £/$ exchange rate go up and down over recent weeks I have decided to take the lifetime subscription and have just signed up via PayPal link sent to me via Accounts. I was backwards and forwards with my thinking over recent weeks but since Roon Arc and more importantly the ability to connect a Dac to my phone and access my library I’ve finally gone for it. It works out at just over £600 which is a lot of money for me as I’m not that well off and not working, but I really wanted this and thought it is better to do now rather than not be ever be able to do it. I feel I’ve made the right choice.

All these new lifetime conversions from yearly.

What was the Tolkien creature who could eat anything and was finally killed when he was fed to himself and ended up as a lttle greasy ort?

I’m so glad to hear you say that you’ve made the right choice :tada: . You should be all set with the lifetime subscription and we can’t wait for us to experience all that Roon will be in the following years

You are far too generous with your words, @Mike_O_Neill. Thank you

We’re delighted we could help.

This is the first time Roon has given an advance notice of a lifetime price increase. Given that it’s a pretty substantial increase, now is a good time to think about it.

PayPal worked for me, too.

Like many a new convert, I am pleased with my decision, but given paying for 1 year annual and then going lifetime would be a total of US$ 950. $ 700 now represents $250 in savings at the end of that 12 month period.

Annual is only $120 now, increasing to $150.

That’s true. I was in the trial period, so if I bought annual now and then lifetime next year, that would be a total of $120 + 830 = $950.

If you think you’ll buy lifetime, do it now. It would make zero sense to wait. You have until 12/31/22 to decide. Even if you just paid for annual, that’s sunk money. There is no reason to wait (unless you can’t find another $700).

If you bought annual within 30 days, you get a credit for that.

Three years ago, I bought annual and switched to lifetime 30 days later and got credit. I just bought a second lifetime license.

I was thinking of doing that, but since I was one day short of the end of the trial period, I decided to go the PayPal route. What surprises me, though, is while it is easy to use PayPal by contacting @beka , you don’t have that choice when signing up for the trial.

I believe more people would be inclined to take the lifetime license that way. OTOH, maybe Roon needs a mix of annual and lifetime members.

Apple Music and the other streaming services, AFAIK, don’t have that option. Plex does, but JRiver doesn’t.

I use PayPal for everything I can, but when I recently bought another Roon license, I used a credit card. Not a problem with Roon. If there is ever a dispute, I would rather just deal with my credit card company than having to go through PayPal, anyway.

Hey guys, I’ve been going through the thread but couldn’t find a proper answer. So I just got on the Black Friday trial, which means that my 3 month mark ends in February, when I’ll be offered to continue with the 2022 pricing (anual or monthly) until the 1-year mark (Feb-2024) and then I’ll start paying the new price.

My question is, does this apply to the Lifetime Subscription as well? As in, when my trial in February 2023 expires, will I be able to choose the current 699$ price? Or it’s until Dec 31st for everyone? Then I’d have to cut my trial short by 2 months if I wanna get the lifetime…

I’m not familiar with a Roon Black Friday 3 month trial, but I’m sure it’s spelled out in the terms. If it says the 2022 pricing pertains to annual or monthly, that means it does not pertain to lifetime. If I was you, I would try to make up my mind before 12/31/22 and jump on the current lifetime price if I’m sure that’s what I want.

Even if you could get the 2022 price later, and I don’t think you can, you’re going to be spending $120 for an annual subscription that is going to be wasted money if you plan to go with lifetime later. The sooner you start lifetime, the sooner you start saving by having no monthly or annual payment.

Thanks for the reply! According to the terms:

“Prior to January 1st, 2023, trials will convert and renew at 2022 pricing. Trials that were started before January 1st 2023 but have their first charge on or after January 1st, 2023 will be billed 2022 pricing for the first charge only. Subsequent renewals in 2023 and beyond will be billed at the new prices. This message should not be considered a guarantee of pricing during 2023 and beyond, and we reserve the right to change pricing at any time in the future.”

So they don’t specify if it applies only to monthly/annual subs or IF it includes the Lifetime pricing as well. Although they do mention “renewals” = I assume subscription plans only, then), But what you’re saying makes sense, and better make up the mind before New Years just to be on the safe side.

I edited the second paragraph of my above response. If you buy lifetime before 12/31/22, the only way you can go wrong is if you decide later you don’t like Roon. I doubt your will, but that’s possible.

Hey @anton7k,

Thanks for asking this question — we get to answer it for you first, and then for everyone else who might be interested.

The Black Friday Deal is not a trial, but a (90 day) subscription. The quote in your post refers to the 14 day free trial that Roon offers to new customers.

For the Black Friday Deal, the renewal date will be sometime in February 2023, which means 2023 (new) pricing will apply if you choose to continue with a Roon subscription.

If you’re thinking about a lifetime subscription, just as @Jim_F has said (), you can benefit from the current pricing up until and including December 31st 2022. Starting with January 1st 2023, new pricing will apply:

Should you want to purchase the lifetime subscription before the end of the year, please, send a message to @accounts or use our contact form and we can help.

Hello! Ohhhh, thanks for the clarification about the deal… It’s my first time trying out Roon and I took this deal instead of the trial as it was for a longer time, but knowing this info now, it would’ve been a better deal for me to get the 14-day trial as I’d be able to keep the old price for at least a year, any chance to do it with my 90-day subscription/trial?

Anyway, I guess I have less time to decide what to do now, thanks for the info!

I’m pretty sure you can switch to a one year subscription and pay now, it will be at the current price. It should get added to the end of your current 90 day plan. @beka will confirm if I got this right.

@beka

EDIT: So, evidently I did not get this quite right. Per @beka below, annual subscription would start when you make the switch. Sorry for the confusion.

You most certainly have, @Jim_F :star2:

@anton7k, if you’d like to purchase a yearly subscription at the current pricing ($119.88) please, let me know when you’re ready, anytime by December 31st 2022.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Beka! And thanks for the help @Jim_F - so if I understand correctly, even if I buy the anual subscription now (before Dec 31st), the year would start at the end of my 90-day, meaning February, instead of right now? (I’d get to keep my two extra months)? If so, that’s a great way.
Thanks! I’ll let you know then
