USB 2, too slow?

Hi

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro as my core with music media on external hard drives connected with (USB 3 to USB C) and it is working fine. But I would like to free up the MBP and was thinking of transferring the core to a 2011 iMac, and also adding a ssd start up drive to it. One concern is would the external hd’s connected with USB 2 be fast enough??

Yes, it has a maximum transfer rate of 480Mbps. Way more than what’s needed to stream FLAC/ ALAC etc.
