Hello, I would like to connect my Nucleus One to my streamer via USB. The cable is plugged in, and the streamer supports USB input. However, in the app, only the Nucleus’ HDMI output is displayed under Audio. Is a USB output even possible? Best regards
Yes it should be, from https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/nucleus-manual
What’s your streamer? Does it work with Linux-based systems?
Audiolab 9000n
Shouldn’t the USB output be displayed regardless of the connection? There is no cable connected to the HDMI output, but it is still displayed.
Why would you want to connect an already Roon Ready network streamer by USB too? This just sounds silly to me. And no, USB outputs don’t just show regardless of connection (because they are multi purpose interconnects). Only if an USB audio device is connect, turned on and recognized (may require you to select tthe appropriate input on the device) it will show in Roon.
Potentially native DSD to the maximum that the 9000n supports.
Edit: I have several Roon Ready devices that support DSD but via RAAT I don’t get DSD512 or DSD256. I get DSD256 and DSD128.
However, with a RPi4 running Roon Bridge or a Roon Rock server connected via USB to my 8300CDQ I could only get the maximum DSD via Windows with the Audiolabs drivers.
I only speculate that the OP is looking for native DSD at the maximum rate the 9000n supports.
As per @Suedkiez noted, only 1 of the 2 USB ports can be used.
Which requires drivers most-likely unavailable on the Nucleus One. Further more and no matter if PCM or DSD, just because a given sampling frequency is accepted as input doesn’t mean it can be used by the device (its DAC chip to be precise). This is sadly more often the case than not with DSD512.
Note: If the device could use DSD512, nothing would hinder the manufacturer to support that via Roon Ready (RAAT) AFAIK.
Both USB connectors of the Nucleus One can be used for connecting DACs but just one is needed to connect a (one) DAC. And only when connected to the one USB Type B connector on the 9000N.
Yep
Even using DietPi and Roon Server I didn’t always succeed in full DSD.
again, I only speculate this might be why the OP wishes to connect via USB.
Wi-Fi and LAN work, of course. If I buy a device that says USB out in the manual and my second device, USB B, also supports it, I’ll give it a try, of course. Thanks for your thoughts.
Just to confirm. Only one USB port on the Nucleus One can be used to connect a USB DAC.
As @BlackJack mentions, and I don’t recall differently, USB output on the Nuclues One will only show when the 9000n is connected to the USB-B port and the input on it set to USB.
YMMV
