USB powered DAC - how to prevent auto power down when idle

Hi, I have a few RPi’s that are powered by the official RPi PoE HAT. RoonBridge is RoPieee.
The DAC (Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital) is powered by USB as recommended by the manufacturer.
The DAC auto powers down after some time when not playing music.
Pro-Ject support confirmed that this is NOT caused by the DAC, so it must be the RPi that is shutting down USB power when idle.
Can I prevent the RPi to auto power down USB power when idle?

I’m not sure what the “official RPi PoE HAT” does, but RoPieee does not power-down the USB audio device unless you set it to do so. In the “Advanced” tab, under “USB DAC Auto Suspend”.

Assuming you run the latest RoPieee version I can assure that’s not the case.

In fact, it’s the other way around. RoPieee has an option called ‘USB DAC Auto Suspend’ (on the advanced tab), which is disabled by default.

Ahhh. @Bill_Janssen beat me to it :slight_smile:

@seagull,

I’ll approach the designer of the device as I know him personally.

Thanks

One of the few things I actually know!

USB DAC Auto Suspend is set to off.

The Pre Box S2 Digital has no power off function built in whatsoever.
So it must be that the Raspberry is cutting USB power.
I know in Windows there are USB suspend settings.
