I am running Bacch and Roon on a Mac Mini. I am feeding the Bacch audio output through the Mac Mini via USB to a Babyface Pro then to my Anthem AVM 70 via optical. All that works well for audio.
For Video I’ve enabled my Home Theater Projector as a Mac Mini Display (Mac mini display settings mirroring). I am using a second USB output from the Mac Mini to USB cable to my Home Theater projector. When I do this the Home Theater Projector shows up on Roon as a display for the Bacch audio output …BUT there is no video displayed on my Home Theater Projector. Thoughts?
Roon is an audio player and doesn’t put out any video content. Roon’s display feature is basically a dynamic (animated) web page. To me it sounds like you want to clone your Mac’s monitor (video) signal to your projector. You can probably do that with whatever settings and tools MacOS provides you with – it just has nothing to do with Roon.
PS: Using a USB connection for video, while not impossible, just sounds unlikely to me. none of my beamers support that to my knowledge either. Maybe you can share specifics about your beamer? Does anyone know if every/any Mac Mini supports video out over USB?
Pretty much all Macs going back to 2018 or so have Thunderbolt and/or DisplayPort over USB-C. I assume that’s what is meant by USB.
You are correct. It is through USB C.
It is true that ROON is a music service but it does provide video displays as well. Although poorly identified (Its activation is under the speaker selection) you can select a video out.
I enjoy seeing the music album covers when I listen to the song tracks.
It’s not clear from you last post if you have this working now,
But the display option under the speaker selection refers to Roon’s Display feature (see below) which allows you to display a ‘Now Playing’ screen on a web browser or a Chromecast device.
The way it’s intended to be used is that you have Chromecast connected to your TV or AVR, or a web browser running on your TV set which Roon can send a ‘Now Playing’ web page to over the network. It doesn’t need a direct HDMI (or thunderbolt) connection to the display, nor will it work that way.
You can test it out by copy/pasting the link (see KB article below) into a web browser on your mobile phone, after which you should be able to select it in Roon.
To use it with a projector you’d need a Chromecast or a browser running on your streaming device/dongle. There’s also a 3rd party App for Apple TV.
If you using your Mac as the projector input then why not just make the Roon app full screen?
