Volume control with JLSounds I2SoverUSB v.III not working

Hi,

recently I replaced my WaveIO interface card with the JLSounds I2SoverUSB v.III, main reason was the better DSD support and because it is half the size of WaveIO.

The problem I have now is that it is no longer possible to control the volume with Roon (OK using DSP would work but I don’t want a DSP involved). Roon tells me Volume control is fixed. In the Device Setup Volume Control is set to Device volume.

In the Volume Limits setup I found that Device Limits are Min:0, Max:0, Comfort:0 and the information These are the minimum and maximum volume limits as reported by your device. So I guess that the problem my be within the firmware implementaion of the I2SoverUSB not reporting correct data. But since I do not know how volume control is working in detail this is only a guess.

My question is, is this a known issue with the JLSounds interface card?

With WaveIO using the same setup and the same settings volume control worked like a charm.

My setup is Roon Optimized Core Kit => RoPieee => I2SoverUSB v.III => Buffalo II DAC

ROON Audio Device shows

JLsounds Hi-Rez Audio 2.0
192.268.1.25
Linux 4.19.127-4-SPCKFSH-v7
