Wanna hear the most played music of Roon's first decade?

Hey Community friends,

We’re rounding out our 10th Anniversary celebrations this month with something special, courtesy of all of you — a playlist that compiles the most played music in Roon since our launch in May 2015. You can find the appropriately named Decade playlist in the Playlists by Roon section of your Roon homepage and check out the full story in our accompanying Roon Blog article, ‘Decade: The Exciting Soundtrack of Roon’s First 10 Years’.

As we mark this 10th anniversary, we’d like to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for making this music journey possible. Your discerning ears, passion for high-quality audio, and love of musical discovery continue to inspire everything we do. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Roon. Here’s to the next ten years of shared listening experiences and affinity for all things music.

Thanks so much, Roon, we truly appreciate all the amazing work you do!

One of the things I love most about Roon is how brilliant it is for music discovery. That’s why it’s a little disheartening to see the Top 10 lists dominated by the usual ‘audiophile’ picks.

There’s so much great music out there — metal, pop, electronic, rock, prog, and more — but those genres often seem underrepresented. I wonder where the voices of younger Roon users are in the mix?

As above ,not many surprises .

Is that list in play count order or random top 20 (±)

“Decade: The Exciting Soundtrack of Roon’s First 10 Years”

Of all the possible adjectives, I’m not sure that “exciting” quite hits the spot!

How young are you referring to?

Someone who is 80 is 35 years senior to me, so they may see me as young. I bloody don’t feel it though :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I had never heard of Anette Askvik, so that’s surprising.

You need a new T Shirt :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Maybe should be “Growing Old is Not for the Faint Hearted”

That is such an uninspiring and boring list. Nothing exciting about it at all. Infact it leaves me feeling like one of those tracks, by my all time unfavourite band.

Should be called the ‘ most played and unadventurously predictable list"

Hey @Mike_O_Neill, it’s organized in order of total play time, with No.1 being the most played for each category.

Dude, quit ripping the Floyd, I will fight you!

I can always recognize a fellow die-hard fan by their use of “The Floyd” :fist:t2:

What would have been nice and appropriate based on the fact this was to celebrate 10 years of Roon would have been to focus on music from the past 10 years.

So many great albums/songs have been released in this time. From well known old and new artists. But from what I can see none in these lists is from the last 10 years.

Had we/I known the threads you created 26 days ago, like this one were for this purpose, then I would have made the above as a suggestion.

Roon could have done any number of things, but chose to do what they did. I would have liked a coupon for 10 free beers.

I’ll drink to that!

Well… let’s just say most users are probably rocking out in their retirement years (and hey, more power to them!).

But it does make me wonder, how does Roon plan to win over the younger crowd? You know, the ones glued to Spotify, Apple Music, or deep-diving through Bandcamp gems [Where is Roon > Bandcamp integration?].

One thing that really grinds my gears? The metadata situation for metal and electronica.

Modern genres like metal, prog rock, experimental and electronic music are seriously underloved when it comes to meta data, album info etc. These genres deserve some love…

Especially when the info is available:

BUT the age demographics of Roon users show US OLDIES, outnumber the youngsters :smiling_imp:

We listen old stuff

So do I, although the mother in law doesn’t like being called ‘stuff’

My tastes vary sufficiently that anything goes and from any point in time.

Music in my view bridges age barriers. Music from way back then is still relevant now.

The lists created are made up music I know and like, but they feel uninspiring.

Jamie wrote the lists were created by ‘our’ choices. Were they? Not trying to knock his blogs, most make great reading. I was a little  with this one.

Great band suggestion there BTW :+1:

Spotify is great for discovery at times and is the starting block for my kids.
