Want to clean my audio files, but keep play count info

I want to clean up the directory structure of my audio files. For this I will need to move a bunch of music files and album directories around.

How can I keep the play count and the “recently played” info in Roon ?

Make sure Roon doesn’t see two copies of the tracks at the same time.

If you just move them around on the same storage drive and under the same music folder, Roon will recognize them as the same tracks and keep the metadata.

If you move them to new locations or to new drives, follow the instructions:

Thanks for this. Good to know.

My advice is to use ChatGPT to generate bash scripts that do renaming within the same watched folder. I just did this, got rid of accents and really long file and directory names and prohibited characters, and Roon took a while and chugged and did a bit of analysis but all is good afterwards. It cleaned everything up and kept play counts etc. Magic, like it ought to be.
