Thank you. It replaces a QB-9 DSD which was already excellent, but it adds an uncertified Roon endpoint, multiple inputs and the potential to be an even better DAC than the QB-9, so I am quite excited to have it.
QNAP TS251+ > Router > SonicOrbiter SE > Schitt Bifrost Multibit > Quad 44/520…
Really easy to get it all up and running, the SonicOrbiter is great.
NUC straight to the Schiit, huh? No streamer?
Ahh, sorry. RoonCore>Ethernet> goes before that. However, I run JRiver directly on the NUC to the Schiit
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 + Roon (via AudioQuest USB Carbon) > Meridian Prime Power Supply > Prime Headphone Amp > Focal Utopia (or Beyerdynamic Astell and Kern or HiFiMan HE-560). The Utopia + Prime over Roon is unlike anything I ever thought I would hear in my lifetime. Precise, fast, pure, and simply the cleanest sound I ever thought possible. It’s a beautiful experience.
Marantz NA-11S1
Bit of an update for me, I now use a Mytek Brooklyn DAC (I use the Matrix mini-i pro in another room now)
Awesome DAC for the money
I have a Lyndgorf DPA-1.
MSB Select II with renderer and quad USB. Roon on a purpose-built computer using SSD hard drive for Roon and a Q nap 251+ NAS
Sorry for a belated reply, but it may help future readers
I run an M-Dac+ async via USB. I have bought 3 different, more expensive dac’s to try and sold them all (including a Chord Hugo). The M-Dac when paired with the right kit sounds great, and I think i’d have to spend over 2 grand to achieve anything better sound wise. Using Roon does really help a lot as well. If I were to offer any advice, the M-Dac is fairly bright, so you might need something to offset that in your set up.
I run Roon through two DACs:
- Benchmark DAC2 D (via iMac) for my computer/headphone rig
- Marantz SR6011 (via Squeezebox Touch EDO) for the home theater
I use the DAC in my Emotiva XMC-1. Sounds great!
got, yesterday, a Chord 2Qute
bought it for just the few DSDs I have whilst keeping my beloved Metrum Hex for everything else but… this thing is unbelievable indeed: almost on par with the Hex (more than twice 2Qute’s price)
I now understand what “natural” sounding (the Hex) means. apart from this (the Chord still being “a tad” on the digital side, but it keeps losing “glare”)… WOW!
weird (or maybe not
) that two drastically opposite approaches (no oversampling vs extreme oversampling) both bring to great sound quality
Just this week put in a DirectStream Jr using Roon via it’s built in Bridge II and the sound is amazing…huge step up from my previous setup.
Over the last year I’ve gone through several iterations:
1: Mac Mini (files on internal drive) via USB to Parasound Integrated Amp (using the amp’s DAC), then
2: Mac Mini (files on QNAP NAS) via ethernet to SonicOrbiter SE to Parasound Integrated, then
3: Linux NUC * via ethernet to SonicOrbiter SE to Parasound integrated, now
4: Linux NUC via ethernet to DirectStream Jr, balanced out to Parasound integrated.
Parasound outputs to B&W CM10s.
Each change was a major improvement…more than I would have suspected in some cases. The current setup, with the DirectStream Jr DAC brings both the best sound and amazing integration with Roon. Very pleased.
- i5 NUC with a stripped-down Debian Testing (DSD capable kernel, no gui, very limited set of services running beyond RoonCore) installed on M.2 120gb SSD and internal 2TB SSD with music library. Tiny, fast, quiet, completely self-contained!
ps audio direct stream dac with network bridge installed

Hi Steven
What resolutions do you feed your MicroRendu to your GG?
The MicroRendu is limited to DSD256, right?
Have you compared your MR with an aries or a (Windows10) HQP NAA?
What machine do you have roon and HQPlayer running on?
I have an Atlantic DAC here and it’s working fine with DSD512 over an HQP NAA.
I have to ask… Why?
My GG is brand new. It replaced my b7b. I received it then went on vacation. It was built with both the r2r with a brand new clocking system that will play DSD and PCM natively.
I could also use hqplayer to upsample to DSD. Lukasz believes that I should use HQ Player with no upsampling or any other manipulation with my GG.
I don’t have an Airies. But I could borrow one. I could also enable one of my pcs to be a Windows NAA but I’m not sure why with the MicroRendu. Is it supposed to sound better?
I use ROON Server on my dedicated server PC. I run HQPlayer on my Audio PC.
Fred and Lukasz did not believe it was worth spending money on 512 with this new dual clocking system. I’m not sure what it’s exact name is and they don’t describe it on the site.
Hi,
Good question.
The WaVelet processor (DAC, DSP, preamp, and crossover) is positioned between my CODA 15.5 amps between the speakers. I also own a Lampi GG that is on racks next to my turntable, preamp, and computer system. The Lampi is connected to the Dude preamp and it’s connected to the WaVelet by a 25 foot pair of balanced Interconnects.
I usually listen to the Lampi GG. WaVelet sounds awesome through its USB input but can’t compare to the GG.
I had the Paul Pang USB 3 card and REGEN and connected them to the Lampi before I got the microRendu. I was a beta tester for LAN rover and so have one of those.
Instead of selling off the LAN Rover, Paul Pang, and REGEN at a loss I thought it would be fun to still be able to listen to WaVelet once in a while or if I ever sent my Lampi to Lukasz for an update. I thought that combo would be better than purchasing a long USB cable to run from the PC to the WaVelet. I could sell those pieces and purchase another mrendu and linear power supply. It does sound good.
