Like:

  • the seamless integration using Versions of Tidal and my digital files
  • How well it works running on my Synology NAS I already had. I wouldn’t have taken the jump to Roon without it
  • Explicit version tags. Insane other platforms sometimes don’t have this
  • Expanding album art on iPad and viewing of local folder images
  • Lifetime! These are going away on other platforms so happy Roon continues to offer it. Got it on the recent sale.

Dislike:

  • Apps not running properly on 120 hz screens (rough scrolling on my iPhone 17 Pro)
  • No Apple Music. I understand this is not a Roon thing but an Apple thing but it would be life changing for me, because I prefer it to Arc or Tidal when on the go
  • Weird touch targets: Like on my iPad Pro I will scroll and it will select an album or some other item, and doesn’t feel like scrolling through apple apps that have a more natural responsiveness. Not sure how to explain this but I saw someone else with this gripe too.
  • Favorited items not appearing first thing in search
  • Chromecast not working anymore on my LG C3 TV for lyrics. I did until a software update a year or two ago from webOS. However, every other app ever I’ve tried that does Google Cast works flawlessly with the TV

Like:

  • unified view of streaming and local library. I have a substantial local library that basically stopped around the early-to-mid 2010s when I started using streaming. This function helps me bridge the gap as I have begun to fill in my library with purchases lately.
  • Listen Later. I had a false start with Roon last summer and really missed this after moving off Roon for a bit before coming back
  • WAF. My previous home audio solution was LMS, and we had a Spotify subscription. I had wanted to drop Spotify because of the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ of their service and the paltry royalties they pay, but Qobuz Connect support was non-existent in the open source/DIY world. Now, my wife has 2 apps, yes, but it’s still a unified view and MUCH more intuitive to a non-techie like her (I was happy with LMS and prefer it in some ways to Roon)
  • MUSE, especially the presets for, so far, all of my headphones

Both:

  • Roon Radio. Sometimes, it’s ■■■■■■■ crazy. Sometimes, it knocks it out of the park. Thankfully, it seems to be under very active tweaking. :slight_smile:

Dislike:

  • Two apps. This is better than the three I had before (Qobuz, Symphonium/Plexamp, Lyrion), but it’s still one too many. Transferring listening from my phone/car to the house should be as easy as it is with e.g. Spotify Connect.
  • No native Linux app / web app. Roon on WINE recently broke, so I’m a bit SOL here, except for my work Macbook Pro (shhh!)
  • Both app layouts feel a bit…dated, moreso on my phone. ARC is nicer, imo, but some customization of the dashboard would be nice. See Symphonium for some inspiration - the Symphonium devs nailed it.

I’ve committed to a year with Roon, and I’m fairly certain that I’ll continue past that at this point, based on my experience the past 6 months. :sign_of_the_horns:
