First of all, I have to say that I am a big fan of roon. But there was a problem with the internet in our house and I haven’t had access for 4 days now. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get roon data from the internet, but the fact that it wouldn’t work at all really surprised and disappointed me. I have a lot of ripped CD’s in my Nucleus+ that I couldn’t access anymore.
Sorry guys, this is not acceptable and really made me realize that I need to look for an alternative solution.
Try Audirvana Origin for playing your local files without internet. A lifetime license is US$119.99. This is a good option for when your internet goes down and Roon stops working temporarily.
I understand that Roon protects its rights, but they don’t have the right to deny me access to my files just because I made the mistake of using Nucleus+.
I am of course currently using my CD’s and at the same time researching what my future streaming concept can look like where others don’t control access to my files!
Even though I like Roon, this is not an option!
Then investigate this

Roon does not deny you access to your files. They just don’t facilitate that using their platform without an active internet connection. They have every right to do such. It also has NOTHING to do with using a Nucleus. It’s how Roon works. Use some other option to play your local files without internet access. Audirvana Origin works well for this and is US$119.99 for a lifetime license.
I agree, that´s the way to go. Thanks!
Check out the latest release - the requirement for constant internet connectivity has been removed.
Thanks for the information, sounds like a way in the right direction. Unfortunately, I’m still waiting for my internet connection to be restored, so I can’t update at all.
This problem has given me a lot to think about, how much we have become dependent on the internet. Whether it’s music or video streaming, more and more software is only rented out for monthly fees and if you stop using it, you have nothing left, not like in the past where, if you didn’t want to buy the update, you could still continue working with the outdated version.
Music that we stream no longer belongs to us, as soon as we stop paying monthly because we can no longer afford or want all these paid subscriptions, then we have nothing left.
That’s why it’s very important to me to keep my CDs and fall back on them in days like these.
