I like them both equally.

Gothic Country is a new one on me; it figures that Tom Waits would be involved. Iâm gonna give it a listen but I might wait til Iâm suitably depressed.
Haha, good luck Michael! Jim really never leaves me depressed, I must say. Quite the contrary. But his sound is unique. Sometimes also labelled âcountry noirâ. I think some of the later Tom Waits records would qualify, although really completely different. I think Johnny Dowd is closer to Jimâs vision and spirit. Also Mary Gauthier, but I think youâll know her. If not, check her out too, sheâs great!
This album is super good. Great sound. I might consider buying the LP. It isnât cheap though. I love Gardot and canât wait to see her concert in July.
Yeah itâs good, isnât it? He really hasnât a bad album if you ask me. Although I still prefer his first (Wrong-Eyed Jesus) and fourt (Transnormal Skiperoo), for being the most âgothicâ / ânoirâ (swampy, mysterious, whatever).
'Handcuffed to a fence in Mississippi" is a pretty good start - Iâd never heard of him but it seems like plenty of well-known musicians want to work with him, always a good sign.
âWaffles, Triangles & Jesusâ isnât particularly ânoirâ, but a hell of a lot of fun.
