What a year 1959 was for Jazz: John Coltrane introducing his complex ,Coltrane changes‘ in ,Giant Steps‘, while Miles Davis and Bill Evans concentrated on Modal Jazz. Unbelievably great albums had been produced in 1959!

The review of this is one of those snarky anonymous ones that are frequently seen with classical stuff. The reviewer complains about “a gutty string tone”. That’s a positive in my book.
