This album was out before I started driving in 1993, but this album and the ones you mentioned were in my first vehicle as soon as got it, as well as many other iconic 80’s bands, especially Phil Collins and Genesis, and many many more.
“The Sonatae tam aris quam aulis servientes were Biber’s first published works, issued in 1676 in Salzburg, where the 32-year-old composer had relatively recently established himself as one of the leading musicians at the court of the Prince-Archbishop. One can well imagine them making a strong impression; these 12 ensemble sonatas in five, seven or eight parts ‘fit for table or altar’ (ie for sacred or secular use) are boisterous and confident, grafting free-flying solo writing for violins and/or trumpets on to a solidly grounded core of up to three violas and bass.”
Stephane Grappelli was great with and without Django Reinhardt. He outlived Django by over 40 years so he had to redefine and reestablish his music style. I was lucky to see him live in the 80’s.This album is part of my vinyl collection.
I bought mine in L.A. in 77 also. I’m more of an accumulator rather than a collector. My brother who is a collector, and I used to go to the swapmeets and other places to find rare and interesting music.
