I was just kidding, I’m not a collector but rather a music lover and amateur guitar player !
That said, I don’t remember seeing you in LA in 77
If you like Jazz violin, you should listen to Georges Effrosse with Sarane Ferret and Le Quintette de Paris.
Those are 78 rpm records probably not so easy to find, but really great music recorded in 1942 (bad times…).
You may translate in english this article about Georges Effrosse:

All eight takes recorded in 1942 with Sarane Ferret et le Quintette de Paris are available on a compiled album from 2013 and can be streamed from Tidal:
- Folies Bergère
- Studio 28
- Daphne
- Surprise Party
- Royal Blue
- Hungaria
- Lucky
- Sex-Appeal

I got this album by mistake in a 2nd hand cd shop. I was buying Transformer by Lou Reed but when I got home this was in the box.
Thanks a lot for this, Andreas.
I hope you like their music !
Unfortunately, most of the time transfer from 78 rpm records to CDs are not so good, it’s a shame because the sound quality of 78 rpm records are often very good, despite the fact they are monophonic recordings you’ve got a high dynamic range.

Yes, that’s true. You ARE a collector besides a music lover. I know. I have been collecting records, too, and I know a collector when I see one. And you know your music very well. These 78rpm records must be by now near impossible to find. They are treasures to be kept well in memory of Georges Effrosse who was murdered by the German fascists.
I’ve read and heard of the some of Ferret Brothers work but I don’t think I’ve heard Sarane Ferret or Georges Effrosse. Looks like something to pursue. I’m familiar with Stuff Smith and Eddie South. I’ve read books on Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli which provided a long list of musicians to research and listen to. I’ve been to the Djangofest NW in Washington State a few times, so I’ve had a great opportunity to hear a number of current Gypsy Jazz performers. Thanks for the tips.
