These last days I have been listening to several recordings of Mozart’s ‘Great’ Mass in C minor K 427. There is a well-known recording by Nicolaus Harnoncourt and Concentus Musicus Wien. Harry Christophers recorded this Mass ten years ago live in Boston with the Handel & Haydn Society. William Christie and Les Arts Florissants released on Elatus a beautiful version. Philippe Herreweghe conducting the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées has out another nice recording on the Harmonia Mundi label.

At last I came up with this French recording from 2006 by Louis Langrée and Le Concert D’Astrée on Erato. The playing might not be very orthodox Mozartian, the sound is at times heavier than you would expect, but always very beautiful and satisfying. But, taking into account that Mozart probably wrote the prominent soprano part for his wife Constanze, the two great sopranos Natalie Dessay and Véronique Gens featured on this recording make all the difference. The recording quality is great, as expected on Erato. This one is a keeper I certainly will frequently listen to.

I started with some Pierre Bensusan. This was a great morning coffee wake-up album:

But really picked up the pace with some Shooglenifty. Certainly the perfect pick up the house once the coffee kicked in album:

I really like this album. And, it sounds really good @ only 16/44.1.
