What we are listening to [2021-01 to 2021-03]

Oh…nearing the end…you surely needed… Tom Traubert’s Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)

Wasted and wounded, it ain’t what the moon did
I’ve got what I paid for now
See ya tomorrow, hey Frank, can I borrow
A couple of bucks from you?
To go Waltzing Mathilda, Waltzing Mathilda
You’ll go Waltzing Mathilda with me…
I begged you to stab me, you tore my shirt open
And I’m down on my knees tonight
Old Bushmills I staggered, you buried the dagger in
Your silhouette window light
To go Waltzing Mathilda, Waltzing Mathilda
You’ll go Waltzing Mathilda with me…

Sorry @ged_hickman1…you got me started reading that other thread. It’s been raining since yesterday morning, literally non stop & an entire arvo of Tom has been most appropriate. Luckily, I can still wear shorts, T & no shoes/socks.

Yes, this is really good. I quick listened this morning, and will explore properly over the weekend. Big improvement over her previous stuff.

On my Aussie Day posts (26 Jan)…I posted her first ep & a youtube vid. My impressions of her latest album then was that she’d become too polished & was trying to capitalise on her success moving toward the US R&B market, where all the loot can be found.

Since then I’ve not had another listen…I’ll give it another go, based on the favourable responses around here.

I had got this album as LP; never thought of it in the last >30 years…

I’ve seen her live 3 times. She is born to do live shows. You should see the under 20’s losing their mind in a crowd of 80k.

I have to bring ear plugs, not for Tash’s show but the screaming at the start

Somewhere this morning, just after World Party above, & pre my Tom Waits arvo…I felt these Irish rockers were befitting of my listening requirements, roughly on my final coffee of the morning.

I have most of their albums but am really looking forward to their 2021 release (out now). Thursday evening I was watching a guitar rig rundown with their guitarists. Far out they are exacting and know precisely where they want to go.

For those that understand, they’ve gone back to using pedals & amps once again (and what extensive pedalboards they have), after using AXE fx for some years.

Whilst AXE fx is not something your average musician would have costings ~$4000, it’s extensively used these days. It’s a digital modelling tool that simulates literally 1000’s of amps, cabinets, speakers, pedal presets etc. Further, users write and share their own presets, so the possibilities are almost endless. And whilst the cost is steep for the home musician, one of these machines is considerably cheaper than buying a classic 60’s Fender ‘blackface’ amp alone.

The way music is made has certainly changed!

This surprised me as to how it sounds, was expecting it be more metal based rock with that type of cover. But it’s more rnb than anything. Not really my bag a bit too tame and light.

I’m still listening to the album but it’s not going to be added to the collection I am afraid.

Sorry to hear that

Don’t be, can’t all like the same stuff or it would get boring fast. It’s not bad, just not something I would cry out to listen to at any point, far better rnb based rock that I do like imo. Arlo Parks for one I find more appealing straight out of the gate.

I am enjoying it, it might be an occasional listen as it has a good chilled vibe to it.
Interesting as I thought it was a Metal album as well based on the cover (book and cover and all that).

But I do enjoy browsing the overnight post’s and try to decide what might be interesting and adding a few of these to the queue. Two of these have made it through to the end this morning, and enjoyed them both.
Thanks to the original posters.

You have a porchance for metal albums like that cover looking at your history

My favorite two albums of Cake (except “Showroom Of Compassion”, which is still not available). I didn’t find them on qobuz till now. Maybe this is a better search function of v1.8.
Be it as it may…

This is true, same for book’s with interesting looking (or maybe bright) covers :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Eclectic taste in music, is what my friends tend to say. They have no idea what is coming next.
But variety is the spice of life after all

Not trying to prove a point, but this just came on after the last song finished :grin:

(And just discovered these are from Stavanger in Norway where I spent a long time in the 90s and really enjoyed it there, wonderful people)

It is very much so. Never been a metal fan though can’t draw myself to that side of things.
