Yes I have. Between my father and oldest brother, they probably have all of her recordings, both on vinyl and CD. Not to mention countless recordings from E. Power Biggs, Virgil Fox, Diane Bish, Simon Preston, Michael Murray, Carlo Curley, and the list goes on and on.
I was literally born into classical music.
Oh, and let’s not forget P.D.Q. Bach. LOL
This (vol.1 and vol.2) is a very idiosyncratic reading of Bach’s six sonatas and partitas. Hélène Schmitt interprets the pieces with a good dose of exploring ad libitum, and the works sound at times a bit like Biber’s Mystery Sonatas. I find this quite exciting, never boring, and always holding my attention. But it is true that, as Allmusic’s reviewer writes, this certainly is not to everybody’s liking.
The recording sounds as if it had been quite close-miked, as if one were standing at three feet in front of the player. The recording venue adds the right amount of reverb, and I find it an altogether enjoyable discovery.
