What we are listening to [2021-01 to 2021-03]

Overplayed this album a lot when first released. Song for Zula has its own neural pathway permanently burned into my brain. Will have to pull it out again.

I’m sure my wife has forgiven me by now.

Reinhard Goebel journey, Part 5. Orchestral overtures by the eccentric violin virtuoso Francesco Maria Veracini. Goebel’s Musica Antiqua Köln really shine a bright light on this upbeat music:

I tried to find this, but it’s a struggle to get a copy.
Second hand they were very expensive.
I am keeping an eye out for a copy

Almost 17:30 and first album of the day.
Emergency request for help from a friend, so whole day gone.

Well this was a surprise, I was expecting some symphonic Metal, but got a soft rock album, with accoustic guitar. Very nice if not exactly what I was looking for (but going to enjoy it anyway)

This certainly would have been included in this album from 1982 (Decca), reissued in 2007 on L’Oiseau Lyre…

Yes, I’ve tried this one, but I don’t recognise any of the madrigals as being the one I heard all those years ago.

And I know I said “LP” it was actually one of a collection of large format magazines with cardboard covers that were issued either weekly or monthly - “The Greatest Classical Composers” or some such title. Each magazine contained an 8 inch vinyl disc.

Perhaps it hasn’t been recorded recently for fear of offending?

One Renaissance poem about a couple having sex is Tirsi morir volea de Giovanni Battista Guarini. I found the original Italian text and even a German translation:

Tirsi morir volea,
Gl’occhi mirando di colei ch’adora;
Quand’ella, che di lui non men ardea,
Li disse: “Oime, ben mio,
Deh, non morir ancora,
Che teco bramo di morir anch’io.”
Freno Tirsi il desio,
Ch’ hebbe di pur sua vit’ alhor finire;
Ma sentia mort’ in non poter morire.
E mentre’l guardo suo fisso tenea
Ne’ begl’occhi divini
E’l nettare amoroso indi bevea,
La bella Ninfa sua, che gia vicini
Sentia i messi d’ Amore,
Disse con occhi languidi e tremanti:
“Mori, cor mio, ch’ io moro.”
Cui rispose il Pastore:
“Et io, mia vita, moro.”
Cosi moriro i fortunati amanti
Di morte si soave e si gradita,
Che per ancor morir tornaro in vita.

Thyrsis wollte sterben,
als er in die Augen der Angebeteten schaute,
als sie, die nicht weniger für ihn brannte,
ihm sagte: „ Ach, Liebster,

Luca Marenzio’s madrigal has been recorded in 1981 by René Jacob’s Concerto Vocale and, more recently, in 2001 by Alessandrino’s Concerto Italiano.

May that be what you are looking for? It’s doesn’t really musically build to a climax, but the lyrics are explicit.

Yes keep it safe. Going for about £170 on Amazon In the UK

Well I am listening to CAN now and I have NEU! lined up as well. Interested stuff, but maybe requires a couple of listens to fully enjoy.
Maybe helps understand where Julian Cope got some of his ideas from (besides the drug’s).

It’s quite relaxing in my post Covid vaccination state :relieved:

Well I had it at mid day yesterday and I was going well until about 1:30 AM this morning. Got the shivers and couldn’t sleep.

Been ok all day until about 5pm, assuming it is partly down to not sleeping for 30 hour’s or so.

Wife was in bed for 3 days, so I will take half that as a bonus.
I think the Kraut Rock is helping the mind stay relaxed and mellow though
