This is my release of the day… James Ehnes is one of the current artists I admire most, and I am certainly not alone—he has recently been awarded Gramophone’s 2021 Artist of the Year award.
Ehnes recorded the six Bach sonatas and partitas for the first time twenty years ago on Analekta, and this second recording was made in his living room, for the six episodes of ‘Recitals from Home’ during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. During theses recitals he recorded also the Ysaÿe sonatas which have been released last April on Onyx.
Giving it a spin now. I’m intrigued I must admit!
In the Germany corner I posted details from my own collection and evening entertainment:
Here further references to Friedrich von Flotow a German Romantic who introduced Martha to me…
Friedrich von Flotow

Progressive Metal from down under.

She is mind alteringly wonderful, isn’t she?
Haven’t heard this as yet, listening now.

Absolutely yes, but could have done with a few more track’s.
Yeah man, absolutely!
The whole album is excellent. Paddy is almost a lost genius, whose career has been ruined by eyesight and hearing issues. I thought that his last album of unreleased songs ‘Crimson Red’ was amazing. Also want to give a nod to ’ I Trawl the Megahertz’ which was beautiful.
‘The Old Musician’ Is such a sad song, regarding old age and death. I think it’s one of Paddy’s best songs. The strange thing with Prefab Sprout is that you can go for ages without listening to them, but once you finally listen again, it’s amazing how beautiful these songs are.
