Unfortunately, that recording is only available on Tidal, not Qobuz.

It really is very good.

@Uwe_Albrecht. Anne Briggs is certainly an acquired taste  She did have a massive influence on the UK folk revival in the 1960’s, before deciding that she did not like the sound of her recorded voice, so she stopped recording in the early 1970’s. Shirley Collins was another one of those female singers from this period.

Voice of an angel. :sunglasses:

‘That Same Year’ includes beautifully sparse demo versions of three songs from ‘One Year’ including “Caroline Goodbye” and “Let Me Come Closer To You” where Colin is joined by fellow Zombie Rod Argent on piano. Four songs have Colin joined by the late English singer-songwriter Duncan Browne on classical guitar. Beyond the three familiar songs you will find Colin’s familiar voice and wit come through on eleven completely unheard compositions all penned for the One Year album; including “Sing Your Own Song” where he sings of reading about his own death in Rolling Stone.

From Rick :
“Coyote Canyon is a wilderness area behind my daughter’s house where coyotes gather and howl before taking off for their nightly foraging. Little Tujunga (pronounced “Tuhunga”) is a river running through the Angeles Forest near a house I lived in five decades ago. Half my ideas for this piece came from onshore guitar ruminating. The rest was improvised in studio. Emma was my close and sweet companion during this period, a lifelong deep friend. I composed her song one evening at the kitchen table of our place while she was cooking. Tumbleweedin’ describes a desert tumbleweed storm. I menaced every inch of the Yamaha, recreating the effect of these windblown monsters screeching along boulders, smacking into cactus and anything else in their way at often impossible speeds, following the whims of the heavy winds. This song was completely improvised at the moment in studio and forgotten. Roy’s Rain is a tribute to my great good friend and musician killed in a car accident in 1973. I found For Marsha Version2 on a well-worn studio tape. It’s a variant of the same composition on the Gentle Wilderness album. I like this loose and flowy version. Movin’ On has one thing on its mind – getting away fast and now. Going Home is my improvised take on an American root song. The above seven were recorded between 1972-1975. Three Sisters was recorded on a 20-minute studio break in 1999 describing three barren red hills somewhere in the Arizona desert, a cherished location.”

Released in 2019 and dedicated to Umberto Eco who championed their music, this most recent album by Gianluigi Trovesi and Gianni Coscia is as seriously gorgeous as their former collaborations…

An excellent listen, it took 10 years for the band to create this album!

I’m a massive fan of Joe Pernice. His band recordings + solo + collaborative releases have always been excellent, particularly ‘Scud Mountain Boys’ and ‘Pernice Brothers’. I’m kind of sad that he doesn’t get more recognition as a songwriter and lyricist. Most of the time his lyrics and songs blow me away!
One of my top ten songs of all time comes from this album

The lyrics to ‘Working Girls’ are pretty much the summary of working class teenage angst. Beautiful and sad, that’s Joe. :sunglasses:
He even manages to throw in a reference to a great Carly Simon song ‘Anticipation’

If you don’t know him, he is worth a listen :sunglasses:

Roon community do not take this as a blanket statement. But for you kind and helpful people out there, this is definitely for you.

Before retreating in a little while to the finca I want to make sure to wish you all Happy Holidays and enjoyable days at home, with some quiet moments, good music too, and quality time with your loved ones. Stay healthy and well, and let’s meet again next year. Let’s just wish that 2022 may be a good and happy year for all of us. Lately I have begun to feel a certain anxiety with a world seemingly in growing turmoil, so I don’t wish for anything more than our ability to keep peace, a common purpose to protect the climate and ever more sensibility and help for those who suffer.

Let’s just strife to make our world a little less bitter…
