Listening to this cycle of the complete Beethoven sonatas by the Swiss-Chinese pianist Mélodie Zhao, you’d never guess she played and recorded all 10 discs in less than a year and that when she was only 19 years old. The playing is ‘classic’, profound, and there’s nothing of the flashiness or brashness you’ll find in some other cycles by young artists. It’s a great cycle, and it’s definitely a worthy addition to the collection of any Beethoven admirer.
The Swiss label Claves produced a technically perfect recording.
