This album with its whimsical title from yesterday’s new releases is a real surprise to me; I hadn’t listened to the French Trio Atanassov before; their delightful and nuanced playing has been beautifully recorded by Paraty and offers a great listening experience. Dvórak’s Op.90 trio ‘Dumky’ is a well-known and often played piece, and I am quite impressed by Atanassov’s interpretation…
Time for a blast from the past! I remember being really disappointed when they disbanded 10 years ago

This is a charming new release by the excellent young cellist Astrig Siranossian… The three main works - Bach’s first suite for solo cello, György Ligeti’s cello sonata and the cello sonata by Zoltán Kodály (what a great work!) are bound together by Armenian folk melodies on which Astrig sings and accompanies herself on the cello.
To me the most exciting aspect of this album is the wonderful sound of the Francesco Ruggieri cello from 1667, which can be heard on the the Ligeti and Kodály sonatas.
