I got to see the Cat once in a small club with <50 people in attendance circa 1983-4. What a beautiful tone and style of play. A maestro.

These days I was struck with the desire to listen to Haydn’s keyboard sonatas. There is a total of 60 published sonatas, composed between 1750s and 1795. In recent years, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has undertaken the great effort to record and release a complete cycle on Chandos. In July Vol. 11 was released, nearing the completion of the task.
Other than that, if you wish to listen to a smaller selection of beautiful pieces, the recordings by the Irish pianist John O’Conor on Steinway&Sons can be warmly recommended. His is a poetic, intimate, expressive and to some degree romanticizing style of interpretation, but it is beautiful and I love it.
And then there are the two albums by the English pianist Paul Lewis, released in 2018 and 2021 on Harmonia Mundi. His also is an idiosyncratically expressive style of playing, but very beautiful, too.
