Vinyl all the way to the end of the night is it?
Two classics…one not so well known, the other often dismissed as ‘inferior’ to ‘better’ albums.
Nina Simone
Pastel Blues (1965)
Whilst allmusic doesn’t especially rate this album well, Pitchfork ranked it #21 of best all time 60’s albums. I would sit somewhere in between.

It seems this album is more of a ‘critique’s’ darling, akin to Talk Talk’s final 2 albums. Similarly to those albums, this is not easy to place within a genre and rewards numerous listening sessions. I don’t often go to Wiki for music insight, but I read it within Roon and thought this most apt…
Bark Psychosis’ sound has covered various musical styles including minimalism, introverted indie rock, psychedelia, post-punk, cool jazz, outright mechanical/industrial noise, and electronic dance music. However, the band’s music is best characterized by a sense of acoustic space, moody atmospherics, murmured vocals, abstract but emotional lyrics, and a particularly sensitive and acclaimed mixture of electronic and acoustic instrumentation. I love that album…but I think it’s the bands innovation with the tracks live that really highlight their creativitely. The build up and tension they create those tracks is sublime…I’m thinking something like Mermaids that became a fuzzzed out guitar elevated track.
