When Roon completely misidentifies an album

Hello -

Recently purchased an album off Qobuz - Bernard Haitink and Bruckner Symphonies.

I typically edit metadata in Yate before I import into Roon - and when I did for this album, the info displayed for each work and track was almost completely different from my edits - and wrong to the point of being a completely different work and composer.

After spending some time entering WORK and PART tags, matters are much better - but Roon is still displaying some info from the incorrect initial data.

Here are some screenshots to show what Roon is displaying and how the tracks are listed in the editor - showing what Roon is still using:

Is there any way to convince Roon to ignore the erroneous metadata?

Thanks -

Michael

You can set it to ignore Roons composition data per album I believe, that might help. Go into edit and set it to not use it. It’s right at the bottom of Edit album.

Out of curiosity, can you specify which particular album/boxset this is? Thanks.

Here it is:
Bruckner: Symphonies Nos. 4-8, WAB 104-108 & Te Deum, WAB 45 (Live)

The works/tracks display correctly if I view the album thru Qobuz in Roon - but not my imported/library tracks…

Is this the correction option:

Changing the selection from Roon to File didn’t seem to help.

Yes that’s it, oh well it was worth a punt.

Interesting. I’ve just purchased this album from Qobuz, downloaded and imported it into Roon. And Roon shows it as currently unidentified, but all the metadata appears to be correct…

Clicking on “Unidentified” shows that Roon does not currently have a match for this boxset in its database. Perhaps not surprising, since it was released on the 18th October 2024.

Edit: just noticed that the metadata is also currently incomplete. I needed to add Haitink as conductor(!)

My import doesn’t come up as “unidentified” - and after I worked on the metadata, symphonies 4/5/6 display fine. But 7/8/Te deum still contain erroneous info from Haydn oratorios…

It remains one of my biggest frustrations with Roon - that despite settings that should give the user the option to use their own metadata, Roon still inserts itself - with seemingly no options to overcome the errors.

Minor quibbles, but frustrating…

By way of follow-up…

I wanted to see what happened if I imported a “fresh” set of files after Roon had some time to sort out misidentifying this collection with its online database. The new import was even more bizarre - as shown in the screenshots…

Most of the album was completely misidentified.

In “Edit”, I found that using the search in “Identify album” did not show any correct choice. But If I selected “using basic file info” at the end of the failed search, the collection now displays properly.

I was unaware that this choice was an option - it only seems to appear after clicking thru a few search screens and declining the choices presented.

Perhaps this will help someone who runs into the same problem when Roon gets the album identification wrong.

Thanks!
