To: Jussi_Laako,
Kindly please provide me with a link to last released version 3 of HQPlayer? I changed computers and kept my license but not the install files…
See Jussi’s post above.
That was a year ago. Now v3 is gone for good, it is history. Deleted from the servers, just like v1 and v2.
v3 to v4 upgrade discount will be gone soon too (v2 to v3 discount has been gone for a while).
Who thinks that HQplayer legacy Support Policy bears the hallmarks of arrogance and mercantilism?
Is Microsoft still offering support and downloads of Windows 95? Or Windows 3.1?
HQPlayer Desktop v3 was initially released mid 2013. And last bug fix release was made two years ago. It had maintenance period of one year after being discontinued and this was notified.
I also released this notification at the time:
Apr 26 2019 HQPlayer Desktop 3.x enters maintenance mode.
Maintenance period will last at least for a year.
When I bought Roon for life there was a different version than the current one, but the subscription was, in fact, for life…
But in that Roon case you literally purchase a lifetime license. The word “Lifetime” is literally mentioned in your purchase receipt.
That isn’t the case with a HQPlayer purchase right? At the point of purchase you are agreeing to purchase a version number.
There’s no hidden surprises here.
If you want an old version to work past end of support date, simply save copies properly for yourself.
When I bought version 3 things were not so clear. Let me say that Hqplayer is too expensive compared to other software like JRiver or Audirvana. By the way, version 6 is coming out soon, ready with your wallet …
But version 4 and 5 still continue to work just fine for those who have it downloaded and their licence at hand.
How old is version HQP v3.0 (I seem to remember it was released around 2015). I think Roon later changed the interface required so I doubt it still works with Roon.
I bought v4 about three weeks before v5 was released and was quite annoyed as I had waited before I purchased, but Jussi had automatically granted me a v5 license as it was so close to the upgrade, and then I was very happy.
I would expect to pay almost a full price for a V6 license after several years of receiving free upgrades.
You have to realise that HQPlayer is a pretty niche product and if Jussi doesn’t charge for major upgrades that are 4 or 5 years apart he will have no income coming in to buy new equipment for testing and paying himself.
If you cant afford it, dont buy it! I am always surprised that people want others IM for next to nothing.
Are you sure? … really? Till now each version lasted 4/5 years, so do your maths
Of course I’m staying away from it now. I don’t want to be a sound engineer but to listen to good music. As for the updates, I did it from JRiver 23 to JRriver 32 using the discount. And I can still download, if I want, JRiver 22 …
HQP is an odd choice for this to begin with
Which one, listening to good music or being a Sound Engineer?
I mean if one explicitly has no interest in tinkering.
Fair and true enough
Where did you see that?
