Dear membres, my core is a Windows laptop with an external HDD attached. Roon has found the HDD. But can I attach the HDD to my Auralic Aries G2 streamer ? Also what is best for soundquality ? If I attach to the HDD to the Auralic streamer how will Roon find the HDD ?
As the Roon Server is on the laptop, it is better to attach the HDD to Windows, anyway. If it was attached to the Auralic, then the server would have to read the data over the network from the Auralic and then send it back to the Auralic for streaming. In Roon’s architecture, everything goes through the server.
If you attached it to the Auralic, the Auralic needs an option to export the HDD over the network by the Windows SMB protocol. It may well be able to do that, you’d have to read its manual
Your attached HDD for the Auralic will provide storage for use with DS Lightning, but for Roon you need a Core such as Nucleus, a computer, or NAS. Auralic recommends using a powered drive for DS Lightning. For Roon, you can attach an external drive to the Roon core.
