Which ffmpeg is the right one?

To start with Roon I installed a NUC 7i5BNH with R.O.C.K . I did everything according the explanation of Roon. Finally I wanted to load the FFMPEG file. Fundamental I do not understand wherefore this activitity is. But I loaded the ffmpeg-release-amd64-static.tar.xz.md5 without knowing if it is the right one. I decompressed it 2 times and copied it to the rock directory.
Result was OK, it works properly !
If this file is wrong, what can happen ? Does it has some malfunction or influence to the audio quality ?

If it’s wrong it won’t work, so :slightly_smiling_face:

What Ged said, as long as it works, you’re fine. I don’t even know which one I installed more than one year ago. Never had any issues :crossed_fingers:

Oh, thank you so much for your quick response, I am happy now :+1::grin:

Good to know! Thank you so much🙏

ffmpeg version 6.0 is released.

Does this update has implications on our ROCK core?
Should we update?

All recent ffmpg releases were concerned with video decoding updates or infrastructure stuff for developers. mp3 and AAC are old and it’s unlikely that anything has to be done there.

Same thing in the 6.0 release notes
