Which HQP Filter are you using? [2023]

Just realized I can push more demanding filters on new DSD1024 Hybrid modulators. This one
makes it more natural on the voices and cleaner bass response:
sinc-MGa, AHM7EC5L, SDM, DSD1024×48

Hi There, I realise in order to play the native NOS setting of a dac only, no filter, no noise shaper is the way to go including DSD direct. All great but I find it unfortunate I can not use filters in PCM having to swap all the time the sample rate to meet the dacs sample rate. A job quite quickly done with. I really would appreciate a setting or a check button to choose NOS which offers dynamic sample rate. I think for real NOS dacs this setting is in order and useful, definitly for comparison purposes. For example I liked gauss long in combination with 44.1.

I don’t really understand what you are after and why? I’m not sure I understand correctly, but why would you ever want to do that?

44.1k source? Or 44.1k output?

Actually both, 44.1 source → HQ Player including filter + noise shaper → 44.1 output but also for the source being other sample rates, like 192. Same story 192 source → HQ Player including filter + noise shaper → 192 output. Having this happening dynamiccaly by HQ Player. I noticed if I choose longer filters so to say it does color the sound and I like it more than for example upsampling to 786. If it is not a feasible way to go, fine, but in itself there is something to say for wanting this. Holo Audio for example has an excellent NOS implementation and stand-alone for me it sounds nice with matching sampling to source(NOS). Wanting only the orginal sample rate of the source of what exists in audio does not have to be a bad route to choose. And as I said your filters have impact on the sound also than and it is nice.

This just doesn’t make any technical sense…

Running it at 44.1k is just horrible technical performance. You get best results by running it at DSD256 or DSD512… (which is what I do with mine, I never use mine in PCM mode) But even 705.6k+ PCM rates is massively better than lower PCM rates. In PCM mode you also need the higher rates combined with noise-shaper to correct the inherent R2R ladder non-linearity distortions.

Advantage of Holo NOS implementation is that it is a bit-perfect DAC and thus can unleash HQPlayer’s upsampling potential much better. So you don’t need to worry about how to bypass it’s DSP, since it doesn’t have one.

Technically I can follow your logic and would not want to debate about your statement but it is also about what I hear. And to me it sounds musical and enjoyable like this. Actually I saw some reviews related to Holo Audio in which they also stated a similar impression. The thing is that it might be a technically inferior solution and not reach sound walhalla in the measurable sense. But than again there is not a single device you add to your audio system which does not somehow influence the sound. So if we generalize of course a correct technical implementation is important but it does not solve everything for pleasing the ear. And to me source sample rate also as output sounds nice. I leave it at this. It is not your cup of tea  clear…

I guess sample rate to None

Yes, thanks, but it does not exist for sample rate unfortunately.
