Which HQP Filter are you using? [2024]

5th-order modulators create a narrower soundstage, which is more suitable for speaker listening, while 7th-order modulators produce a wider soundstage, making them ideal for headphone listening.

I enjoy both modulators with speakers, It depends also on the DAC, for example my Holo Spring KTE > 7 order “performs” better than my DAC-60 that uses ESS chip were> 5 order will be more suitable although can play with 7 order too

Native DSD?

As @jussi_laako quotes

“Yes, it depends on how the DAC is implemented. For ESS, the 5th order modulators work better due to how DSD support is implemented there”

Seems ESS are not direct DSD

Strange! My IFI Neo iDSD and Zen v2 both perform better with 5th order…

What is your current filters and modulator setup? Are you still listening to Sinc-Short?

Hi!

Nx1/2 poly-sinc-ext3,
Modulator ASDM7EC-super 512+fs.
DAC correction: On
DSD 512x48

But I also do:

Nx1/2 Sinc-MGa
Modulator ASDM7EC-ul
DAC correction: On
DSD 512x48

Nx1/ poly-sinc-gauss-long
x2/ poly-sinc-high-res-mp
Modulator ASDM7EC-ul
DAC correction: On
DSD 512x48

PCM 1.538
Nx1/2 Sinc-MGa,
Modulator ASDM7EC-super 512+fs
DAC correction: On

Spring L3 KTE  DSD512x48 / DSD1024x48 ROCK → Cisco Unmanaged Switch → deskmini b660 i913000 4070 Super Unbuntu HQplayer Embedded → Raspberry NAA → Intona → Spring L3 KTE → ProAc DB1 :loud_sound: + REL 7/x Sub

Curious, where is the setting for “DAC correction”? I checked the manual and hqp but could not find such a setting.

Also what exactly does this do?

If the dac correction is available for your dac, check here, then you can choose it in Matrix configuration settings … you have to enable both Matrix and dac correction

I have a Holo Spring 3 KTE but I still don’t see these settings for Dac correction in HQP matrix cfg settings.

How is your Spring 3 connected to HQPlayer?

Currently using the Holo Red as a streamer via USB but will be trying i2s soon once my cable arrives.

Anyone using the new M4 Mini with HQPlayer, please share your setup and experience here.

Nx1/2: sinc-Mx

Modulator:ASDM7EC-ul 512+fs

DSD 512x48

DAC correction: on Holo Spring KTE

sinc-Mx is quite similar to my previous poly-sinc-ext3, but I noticed more space and transients detail. It also uses more GPU memory but not as much as sinc-L

This is great, modulator DSD5EC sounds amazing. I had completely overlooked it.

@jussi_laako , in my system, I use the Roon “swap rear and surround channels” setting for 5.1 and 4.0 MCH files. Dolby Atmos files don’t require the use of that setting, so I manually disengage that setting for that use case.

Is there a similar switch in HQP?

As you know, JPlay has just come out with a new control app for HQP and I would like to try it for MCH files. Thanks. JCR

I am using this settings. Dac is Holo Audio Spring 3 and HQPlayer is running on Mac mini M2.

So just to confirm, you can run DSD256x48 - ASDM7EC-super - default filters - DAC correction on base model Mac Mini M2? I thought this combo would be difficult even for the new M4.

Yes, on the Mac mini only HQPlayer Desktop is running. Roonserver is at the Silent Angel Rhein z1 plus that also acts as HQPlayer NAA. I mainly listen to PCM files from my NAS or Qobuz. The mini has 16 gig RAM.

Yeah, I use the ESS pro chip and for me, the Poly Long and the 5EC-Light give the most transparency and air. Better the 7EC

Cheers,

hulo

do u employ -3db elsewhere for headroom of intersample overs?
