Why do artists not in my library appear when I search?

Just for clarification (all of this is “as far as I know”). With a local only library, artists will only appear in search if they are credited on one or more tracks or albums in your library. Finding these credit involves clicking on the artist (Don Williams, in this case). This will then bring up the artist. You will then get the tab “Overview”. This will show performance credits. Some times you will also get the tab “Compositions” (as you do in this instance). This will show composition credits. AFAIK there will be no artists shown in search that do not feature in this way as Roon draws search information from track and album credits.

I had a quick look in my library and it turns out that Don Williams was recorded by very mainstream Rock artists including Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane. This is one of those cases where roon is very strong at winkling out unexpected connections. Even if you have no interest in a genre like Country and little or no Country in your local library, roon will still find the links.
