After several hard weeks getting the new Roon server running on my QNAP NAS I’m very nervous about the new Bridge release, particularly as this platform, though UNIX based - but quite different, is not mentioned in your release notes.
Will there be special installation requirements or integration issues for QNAP devices?
Truthfully I haven’t done my homework on where the bridge fits in the architecture… I assumed it was a necessary component for the core to communicate with the clients.
It’s a lightweight endpoint for devices that shall work just as output. RoonServer has basically all of bridge functionality included within it. The Linux server page says, for instance:
Two packages are available for Linux: Roon Bridge and Roon Server. There is no real purpose to running both Roon Bridge and Roon Server on the same machine, since both provide identical access to audio devices. That said, doing so should not cause any problems.
And the QNAP Docker help page shows that you can enable local USB output for DACs in the Docker configuration file:
