Roon is seeing apple tv, but when you click play it just goes straight to not playing, the pause icon briefly appears and then changes back to the play icon with no actual playing. all the other features of the apple tv still work. i’m running a mac mini, apple tv 4. i can play to my non airplay zone. i’ve rebooted my entire network and restarted the apple tv.
Check your AirPlay settings on your AppleTV and try toggling Airplay password. Apple changed the defaults in a recent TVos update that may be causing this behavior on your end.
Same issue here. Very new to Roon (like less than 48 hours) so I’m counting on you guys! haha I’ll be watching the thread. Hope someone finds something.
We are seeing issues regarding Roon playback with new tvOS update (11.4). If you have not updated already, I would recommend holding off and disabling the “Automatically Update” feature as well. I will be sure to update this thread when we have some more information.
In the Airplay settings on your AppleTV, can you try turning the “Requires Password” option to “On”? You will then have to re-enable the device in Roon in the Settings>Audio screen. Roon should prompt you for the password you have set on the AppleTV. Let me know if this fixes the issue for any of you!
This workaround does work but seems incompatible when you have both HomePods and AppleTV’s. When password is enabled, AppleTV will work when re-added, but HomePods complain that the password is incorrect. When the password is set in the Home app for the HomePod, I try to disable and reenable the device and it does not prompt for a password, it just says “Airplay device refused password”. Without the password it is fine even though it is running 11.4 as are the Apple TV’s.
