I am certain you do, given the variety of your posts Ged. :grinning:

I would typically suggest Blue Valentine as starting place where his voice was husky, but his music steeped in jazz & blues with no experimentation whatsoever, that perhaps first rose slightly on Raindogs and then became the staple throughout the 90’s. I think the preceding Small Change is a better album, but just a hint more quirky (not much), where he harks to the spirit of Loius Armstrong. His use of Waltzing Matilda in Tom Taubert’s Blues is a tear-jerker. His content/storytelling is the equal of any singer songwriter I’d suggest. :innocent:

Tom Taubert’s Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)

Otherwise, his very first release is Tom without the husky (drinker’s) voice of latter releases. I certainly don’t think it’s anywhere near close to his best, but it’s definitely a strong singer/songwriter release.

Cheers. :musical_note:

I struggle with some of his albums - The Black Rider is an especially difficult listen - but I’m a huge fan of Waits, particularly his earlier albums. That said, I know he’s not to everyone’s taste. My wife insists that I play something else if she’s in the same room

Now that might be an interesting option in my house. My wife hates the music of Julian Cope with a passion (including Teardrop Explodes). Walks into a room where only I am sat enjoying the music and says Change the music.

Tom Waits might be a game changer in this scenario, or more likely something might be thrown across the room in my direction.

Thanks David much appreciated :+1:t2:

You’re welcome, just don’t blame me if she does throw something

No that’s a fair point and fully accepted.

Even Elegant Chaos and Quizmaster? That’s close to heresy on my book. He’s not the easiest always. Surely The Greatness & Perfection? Nothing by the godlike genius at all?

Nothing, even if she has never heard it before…
Something about the repetition of lyrics and style. I have even snuck the odd Julian Cope song into an album playing and she just knows.

I think I might have overplayed Peggy Suicide back in the early 90s and she has never recovered from that and hearing Safesurfer too many times.
A good time to flag that as one of my favorite (yet least listened to for all that) album’s.

Most people here will probably hate this album but for me it was nearly a game changer as I had just about all but given up on modern rock/metal and was stuck in my 60/70/80,s time warp.

Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold.
This was truly their “coming of age” album imho.
There is not a bad cut on it with too many standouts to mention but…if I had to pick one track that I could listen to on repeat stuck on a desert island it would be Victim…if you listen to nothing else on this album just spin that track up, it might just surprise you.
Yes I love A7F with a passion, travelled several hundred miles to see them live in concert ( hopefully we will all get to see live music again!)
