It’s actually quite interesting, the Garden Club of Jacksonville fought hard to preserve it through the urban sprawl years until Jesse Ball bought the land including it and a few surrounding blocks and sold it back to the city only on the condition that it could never be developed on.
The power of strong minded people is not to be ignored!
