I have MANY albums that Roon is listing as being 24bit/44.1kHz, where the albums are on fact 16bit/44.1kHz CD rips.
When I double check the files in iTunes or Audirvana etc, they show correctly as 16bit/44.1kHz, so I am not sure why this error is occurring.
The only CD’s I have showing as 24 bit are HDCD’s. I use dbpoweramp for all my rips and there are several threads on their forum, but also at computeraudiophile as to why this is the preferred outcome with HDCD’s.
If the CD’s in question are not HDCD’s maybe re-rip one and make sure all settings are correct. In most rippers you can set bit depth etc…, maybe something went wrong with a particular batch.
… and in case I am just rambling and all of the above does not apply, maybe roon has more insight.
Maybe give one or two examples of the albums in question. In case another roonie has them as well in their collection ripped from CD to check what the bitdepth is in their library.
Focus on 24/44.1. Select all.

It gets more intriguing…I just double checked the files in both iTunes and Audirvana again, and they all show as 24bit/44.1kHz now. But, if I open a file in my audio editor (DSP-Quattro) the files are 16bit/44.1kHz! What the?
After focusing on the relevant albums you can select all (Ctrl-a, shift click or top left menu after initial long click selection on a tablet) and export to an Excel spreadsheet using the + menu next to the top “Play” button.
When you look at the files in a tag editor, how is the %bitdepth% tag set ?

If you ripped them, what ripper did you use and what settings were at work ?
They were ripped in iTunes.
Actually, some were ripped from FLAC to ALAC in XLD.
If the bitdepth tag is set to 24 then it seems likely that a setting was wrong when they were ripped or converted. Your audio editor may be analysing the track rather than displaying a tag. If you’re satisfied that all the albums are actually 16 bit then a batch edit in the tag editor might be the best solution.
