$99 Roon Ready from FiiO - the SR11

It will drop into hotspot mode without WiFi connection. You set it up via the menu into hotspot mode to connect a phone or pc then setup the WiFi. How well it copes with switching I can’t say.

When doing the setup or changing the setup, how is your computer connected to the FiiO? Could you change this when away from home with a different (hotspot) network? Or, is this the part you don’t know?

The FiiO is only connectable via its inbuilt WiFi hotspot which is only active when it’s not connected to a WiFi network or via its network port. So in your case you need a device running your shared hotspot for internet over WiFi and another to connect to it. You could use your phone or laptop.

Most devices these days use a hotspot for your phone, tablet or pc to connect to them to perform the basic setup. There is no direct connection to pc. The menu on the device is basic it allows you to set input output options, dim the display turn off the illuminated logo which changes color based on sample rate. First thing I turned off. It has a network setting that activates the WiFi hotspot and that’s about it. You then on the device connected to the hotpot enter an ip and then chose the WiFi network to connect to. It’s all in the booklet they provide.

Have used it for almost 4 months, super happy with its performance.
Properly powered by 5v output from LPS ( w/ Verbatim Sync & Charge USB-A to Type C Cable), using a lan cable which is more expensive than the streamer itself. If the official roon ready firmware releases soon that will be icing on the cake.

Mine came with firmware version 1.93. I know version 1.74 has the beta DLNA ability.

Does 2.26 also allow DLNA compatibility?

Lastly, the Roon partners page list the SR11 as Roon Ready. Has it been certified?

Haven’t got it hooked up yet.

Thanks!

No you have to request DLNA from support. Only
Got mine last weekend it’s not Roon Ready as SR11 shows as M17 DAP currently so is usable just not recognised as SR11.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Currently on version 1.93 If I install 1.74 that gets DLNA ability. If I then install 2.26 for wifi improvements does that wipe ou the DLNA ability fro 1.74?

Thanks!

Are the digital outputs always on so that it can be connected to two DACs at the same time (i.e. USB and COAX)? I cannot find anything about this on the FIIO website.

You have to choose the output in the menu so I would assume not. But not tried it.

Latest Firmware out makes it fully RR with correct id of device and Artwork. After applying the update had to restart Roon for it to pick all the correct settings up, nut did not need to re-enable it.

Thanks for sharing. It worked as described.

Thanks for the heads up on the upgrade, and the link.

Being a dummy about such things I didn’t know I didn’t need to unzip the file myself, so my initial attempt got a NONE message which is not what a technologically cautious person like myself needs to see. But of course when I put the original zip file directly on the thumb drive everything worked like a charm (although I had to leave the room for a few minutes, like an expectant father).

Sounds great and now I have a nice little 'Fiio SR11 Streamer" icon on my Mac and all my remotes. Yay.

Seems a lot more stable now for me and the display now times out which before it always stayed on regardless of setting. So progress there as well. No idea why it has the logo lit up for sample rates, bad idea first thing I turned off. Other than those quibbles it’s great little device. I just hope they add a few more services to use it with.

I’m contemplating moving the SR11 downstairs to the “big” system and moving the somewhat quirkier iFi Zen Stream to the bedroom where it would be used a lot less. Getting that logo light out of the bedroom would definitely be a plus.

You can turn it off you know. It’s the RGB setting in the menu.

Sure… I have it turned down to minimum brightness currently. Not something I’m basing the decision on… that’s more about the frequent need to reboot the Zen.

The M239 firmware has been excellent. Cleaned up the last few wifi bugs present in v226. Very stable. Sounds even better

Yeah been pretty solid since this one.

Exciting to see many new products like these for such low prices. I’ll continue to use my Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W running Ropiee. It was less than $49 including a nice Flirc case, SD card and power supply. But this Fiio is great option for somebody who wants an off the shelf solution.

The FiiO is more than an endpoint - is also a R2R DAC and Headphone amp - still cheaper than the Pi when you consider what you are getting.
