Which FiiO are you talking about? The SR11 is just a streamer with no DAC, just digital outputs.
There are definite advantages to the Pi. To me, the most important is that you can use the 7" LCD. I prefer to see what’s playing to just the format and rate (and the VU-meter is totally cool). Then, a Pi can be repurposed at any time. When I switched from Roon to LMS, all I did was replace RoPieee with piCorePlayer. Same exact hardware. The SR11 only supports AirPlay and Roon (and DLNA upon request it seems).
I asked them about Squeezlite but they said they are not considering it at this time.
Does anyone know anywhere in the USA that has these in stock?
All I can find are China and the UK.
There are two separate products. The R2R DAC you refer to is the K11 DAC/Headphone Amp. It has no streaming capabilities. It only has USB/Coax/Optical digital inputs. What we are referring to in this thread is the SR11 which purely a streamer (Roon, AirPlay only) with digital outputs.
I have that as well - a Pi 4B with a 7" LCD. I use it as a display/control only, not a Roon endpoint. This allows me keep it on a table next to my chair instead of the audio rack.
What I was referring to was the Pi Zero 2 W which is extremely compact and consumes very little power (0.6W). It can be tucked away somewhere between the power outlet and the DAC. The Pi Zero 2 W is WiFi only and doesn’t work with the display.
The “plain” K11 uses a Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chip, which is a delta-sigma DAC. There’s a “K11 R2R” DAC, which is different.
got my FiiOs mixed up - apologies
It’s been hard to get here until recently. Only had a small amount of stock out there in the wild.
Yes, I was a little sloppy in my post
did some upgrades this month:
Added: LHY Audio OCK-1 & UIP, Gustard N18 Pro, a new power distributor (now have 2 in my system)
very happy with the sound
You know there is a black version of the sr11 as well, right?
Try and get hold of one though. The device is hard enough to get and in black non existent here in the UK.
Black are available on Fleabay from China.
Mine was supposed to be black, but it wasnt and they didnt have any. As took ages to come available I kept it tbh no one looks at it and it matches the 8300xp amp which is silver. I have two black and two silver components in this rig so all balanced.
Using the SR11 with Small Green Computer LPS as Roon endpoint. It has been very stable, and the sound has improved over the included USB dongle. Cleaner with better sound stage. Very happy so far.
I bought one about ten days ago, found it in black color and couldn’t resist. So far no big problem as Roon endpoint, except that it stucks on boot (freezing on Fiio logo blinking) when connected via USB C to the port of my DAC (Metrum Acoustics Onyx DAC3). Tried it at a friend’s house who owns both the Onyx and the Sonnet Pasithea “brother,” same problem with his Onyx while it works with the Pasithea… I end up using the USB host port. Via coaxial gives no problem. Overall, for the price paid it is a keeper.
You on the latest firmware? Never had mine freeze when it boots, but then I leave it on most of the time.
To be honest, I installed a custom Fiio firmware to try access via DLNA as well. I will definitely try reverting to the latest official firmware version and let you know if that works out. Anyway, it’s no problem using the USB Host port as opposed to USB C and I don’t think there’s any difference in sound.
I found their prerelease ones a tad buggy as used them until Roon Ready one came out.
