…question was rhetorical ![]()
I’m a collector and big listener I keep all my vinyl, cd’s and files alphabetical always have been. Other methods of grouping doesn’t work for me.
Thanks to roon, I do it twofold alphabetically - by artist or by album name, depending on my mood and genre of the day. Usually I have the ´by (release) date´ sorting activated.
Surely everyone files LPs in the order they bought them?
Rob Gordon definitely would do that… in case you have watched ´High Fidelity´ ![]()
Could you please explain what you mean by ´everyone´? I see 5 main options to sort in this menu, not only one. And I can tell you from own experience that `Date added´ is one of the really useful ones to review your last added albums, have a quick listen or verify metadata. Using it pretty often, unlike ´album title´ or ´Most played´ which I personally find not that relevant.
That would rather spoil the joke…
While ordering LPs (ie vinyl) in order bought works ok for the first dozen or so, subsequently finding what you are looking for demands a far better memory than mine. Choice of sort criteria in Roon is somewhat more useful…
A bit like filing books based on colour of the spine. And I know someone that does that.
That person is just wrong! Books should always be ordered by decending height ![]()
Hello -
I just wanted to jump in for a moment: I’ve been without internet for four days now, with no end in sight. And as stupid as the situation itself is - at least I can start Roon and listen to my music. It’s great that it’s working again - without having to stay with Roon 1.8 ![]()
I file mine by the first letter of the last name of the girl I was dating when I bought them.
The closed-captioned misspelled Roon every time in the YouTube video. It was spelled “Rune”.
I can’t believe I missed this until just now! Thank you for the strategic leadership to deliver on Roon’s promise and vision that sold me! We’re the idiots who spend ridiculous amounts of money on music, and it only seems smart to grow the whole ecosystem that empowers music fanatics like us to consume more music and better sound.
What made them move away from the core audience?
Yup, and Alta Vista did search! I’m pinning my hopes on Roon listening to those ‘core’ users it’s NOT working for so well, and rethinking the basic experience, else the Roon Killer will.
OK! I just noticed the latest build - direction looks promising already - Sidebar Menu changes. Genres gets a prime link under browse. Playlist are enhanced with folders and family sharing, and you can remove from the menu if you don’t use them. I don’t - I play albums - and I’m hanging out for Tags/Bookmarks to be consolidated and personal groupings for browsing taken to the next level … bring it on!
Focus on growth/acquisition. Meant broadening the market (being many things for many people), and prioritising the number and widespread appeal of features. The ‘core audience’ is only just being defined now … is my take …
The headphones DSP options in Roon are excellent and are what makes me subscribe, we too are your loyal customers.
I’m not sure how headphone enhancements can disappoint “our most loyal, long-term user base of music collectors and audio enthusiasts”.
Many people simply do not have the option of a speaker setup.
… Hallelijah! to this baton change back in the chord and the right note as I was B flat about this and was considering leaving the orchestra. Trust that Harman provides the funding, development, prosperity, happy user base to follow the Roon/Harman curve!
I suspect many of us are as heavily invested in our headphone setups as more traditional audiophiles - the temptation is always there to add extra DACs, amps, and headphones to our collections.
The Headphones thread is testament that this is far from a “casual listening” Community. For myself, I am writing this comment whilst listening to Sennheiser HD800 headphones playing modern choral and organ music upmixed from stereo to 11.1 Auro3D surround (driven by a Smyth Realiser). Wonderfully realistic but not exactly casual.
Of course, Roon is also central to the general headphone user experience, and my previous acquisition of Audeze planar headphones was initiated by the discovery that Roon had specifically created EQ settings for Audeze - a great recommendation. So I hope Roon continue to add value to headphone users - for example by including options for binaural processing tools like APL Virtuoso in future development plans.
Thanks the universe for the Playlist editing function… This was a showstopper in the past… why is this only happening now with the takeover by Harman ??? Also the GUI ist even better…
I think maybe the new owners have decided that it might be a good idea to listen to customers, instead of explaining why every bit of customer feedback is wrong and doesn’t align with the Roon vision.
