A message from the Roon founders

The ONLY THING I demand as a faithful user is… STABILITY! Even with the new version of Roon, there are (fewer is true) still drops and stops, Qobuz is slow, etc. I only pray for this issue. And I have the latest computer and the fastest and safest internet connection.

Roon is the perfect paradise for music lovers and melomaniacs, I am ready to buy the lifetime subscription and the biggest Nucleus but please solve the big issue of music stopping—cheers from Buenos Aires.

It’s easier to be vague and say I doesn’t work and expect a solution from thin air :smiling_imp:

I have to say that the Roon engine is really ■■■■■ … drops streaming all the time, error messages about server connections and so on. I can stream Qobuz, Tidal, Apple music and the signal never drops. Anything through Roon and its a crap shoot. Useless software. I have to go back to JRIver I guess for my DLNA stored music - it is very stable, Roon, not so much.

Look to your network or server setup, I use Roon for streaming Qobuz and Tidal only, no local files, use ethernet into a Kef LS50W2 system and WiFi to a Chord Poly Mojo2 combo, a Wiim Pro Plus and a MoOde Audio endpoint running Roon Bridge and get zero drop outs.
I mean never. 100% reliability.
Roon server is running on Debian on a NUC.

BUT when will JRiver support Tidal or Qobuz or any on demand streaming service ?

I got a snotty personal mail from JimH, telling me desist or else, for even suggesting it on their forum (in the “Make a Wish” thread), the posts were deleted quicker than I could put them up , he must scrutinize the forum like a hawk.

As long as JimH is at the helm , streaming will not happen (he is adamant). If you are happy with Local Only it’s a good option especially as it’s so customizable

My solution … Use Both

Hi @Steve_West, respectfully if you’re experiencing so much trouble with Roon rather than living with it and being frustrated you should create a support request.

It may take a little while for Roon to get back to you, as it works up their queue, but they will investigate to get to the root cause.

I do this, but to be honest, it is not a solution that you want. And it makes actually no sense either. In my personal case the only reason for me buying Roon (Lifetime) was to have one solution for playing music through my house on every place, having my music stored on my NAS, with options of grouping endpoints too with one software.
And that was actually Roon was advertising about. In my case it worked fine and I was quite happy with it, until more and more bugs came in.
I really do hope that with the aquisition of Harman the quality will become the focus over the quantity of “new goodies”.

I am with you on that and I really do hope they prioritise this. Unfortunately I had other experince in the past, but I also have the impression, that they now are more on the problem solving road.

Can anyone from Roon/Harman comment on whether dedicated Roon users who also happen to be Linux users is included in this audience? Having a proper Linux Roon client would be absolutely amazing.

I use JRMC primarily as my metadata editor for both audio and video.

Once adjusted I sync to Roon. This means that both are current

In usage terms I still need DNLA to run to my soundbar and satellite speaker, however rarely.

JRMC still has the most flexible system to create your own views. I determine no difference in SQ

Can you name at least one example of exceptional software related product from Harman (Samsung included)?

What does that have anything to do with strategy? You don’t need rocket sience to determine quality over quantity.
So far since Roon was bought from Harman the focus clearly went more to the direction of solving bugs. The last update was just another one prooving this.
And that is how it should be.

Next: DSD files and ISO playing please.

Roon can play DSD files already.

Yes, my bad, i meant only ISO DSD files

The market potential does not look that great.

Add a great variety of “Linux” and the fact Linux users prefer open source and, more importantly, free software.

That attitude is so 10 years ago.
Plenty of user’s choose Linux now to be free of Microsoft and Apple, freedom as in choice.
Look at the forums here and plenty of user’s run Linux and pay for Roon

I am old. And still doubt there are more Linux users around than the browser stats suggest. And it’s still the same kind of people that have been around ten years ago. Or 20. Don’t get me wrong: Linux is great for stuff like Rock or ropieee. But it does not make sense business wise on the client side.

Also consider supporting this. You need the same basic headcount in support no matter how many users. This just does not add up.
