Just downloaded and installed a new app )Apple App Store) - Lysoniq on both my iPhone and iPad. The main feature of Lysoniq is it’s remote control ability, which enables remote High Res Lossless. Browse the Apple Music catalogue, select music, change volume etc all from your iPhone, iPad or Mac while your other device plays the tunes. Why not use an old iPad as a streamer?
I appreciate how to do it by involving a second iDevice , I actually have only one iPad specifically purchased as my Roon Remote. I can’t recall why I didn’t go Samsung at the time , maybe the 12.9 swayed me.
The point I was making was that Tidal ,Spotify and now Qobuz have an app that can act purely as a control point ,using the network as if it was a local server supply. So why not Apple ?
This new app depends on multiple iDevces and doesn’t act as a Control Point as far as I can see
Initial playback needs to be done on the endpoint device within the app.
If you use 2 iPhones, rename (within the app) the endpoint one to distinguish between the two.
Select it and take control.
Almost near Apple Music native app functionality.
I’ve set the screen to never turn off but dimmed it to the lowest brightness.
I’m using the CCK with my B&O headphones USB dongle. Volume control works but with huge lag. If connected to a USB DAC like the Dragonfly Cobalt or other, this could be an issue. I’ll test when I get chance.
It’s a good start.
Edit: The controller device shows the releases that are Dolby Atmos but do not play back as such in remote mode. Change to local playback and it switches to Dolby Atmos.
Whilst the endpoint device doesn’t need Apple Music installed I thought I would to see if it then allows Dolby Atmos. It doesn’t. This is fine. Not a huge Dolby Atmos listener but worth mentioning I thought.
Most importantly is that playback continues on the endpoint device if the remote device exits the app, force closes the app etc.
