Adding own notes (reviews, biographies, web links, etc.) to albums, artists, compositions, playlists …

That’s what I was saying

I have so many artists with blank bios and blank photos, why?

On the genre pages I can basically do whatever I want according to my own preferences and granularity. Don’t agree with a genre tree? That’s fine, I can change the top level genre, edit the subgenres associated with it, even edit the genre ‘bio’ or it’s name if I don’t agree with rogue hyphens, etc.

I don’t really see how this is any different? I just want the option to control the information from the artist level, and from an album level, I’d love the option to make my own notes, and weblink to review sites so I effectively never need to leave the roon ecosystem.

MusicBox does a reasonable job at this, as shown below:

A place for personal reflections, an easy way to link to external review and community sites in-app.

This feels relatively easy to implement, so why hasn’t it been?

This is a question since day 1. I have a subscription to Gramophone and I would love to have the ability to link a review. No dice, unfortunately.

This will hopefully be available soon.

I usually create 2 pdfs for each album, one contain the DR14 values for each tracks and the second one contain a review of the album.
If we could have “personalized information source” such as a XML file in the album folder, it would be a great addition to Roon.

Roon already supports custom tags, which is fantastic. But what’s missing is a way to add free-form personal notes to individual tracks or albums.

I’d love to be able to write quick thoughts, memories, or comments tied to a specific song or album — things like:

  • “Perfect transition into next track”
  • “Heard this live in Paris, 2019”
  • “Send this to Maya next week”
  • “Great for rainy days”

These notes would be for personal use only, and ideally:

  • Appear in a small editable “Notes” section under track/album details
  • Be searchable or filterable
  • Sync across Roon remotes

Why it matters:
This would add a “music journaling” layer to Roon, making the experience more intimate, meaningful, and useful for memory and discovery.

Thanks for considering this!

Hi @Ted_Mosby,
I’ve merged this into the existing Feature Suggestions topic.
If interested, you may vote for it, see icon at the top of topic.

It would be great if we could add notes to an album, such as reviews and articles discussing its background, as well as our own comments

I’ve merged your post into the existing thread.

If this feature suggestion is important to you, please vote for it by using the Vote button at the top of the thread. Thank you.

Quite often I found myself wanting to write and add a note about an album that I am listening too. Maybe its something that i discovered or a thought of feeling I have about the album, Would love to have the option to add personal note to an album and then these results appear as part of the search option in Roon.

There is an existing request you can vote on:

Welcome to the Roon community, @Dale_Linzey.

I have merged your post with the popular thread. Be sure to add your vote.

wow 115 votes! doesn’t seem the devs are taking much care of highly voted items though…

Great to see all the interest and activity here. Hopefully the devs see it too.

Just to be clear, I think there are 2 separate requests in this thread, both of which would be extremely useful:

  1. To add your own reviews for albums, for when they are missing. This would likely be a copy-paste from a preferred source on the web. I’m guessing this would be a local thing to each user, though a community contributed reviews system would be excellent too!
  2. To add your own personal notes to albums (e.g. “First heard this when taking the parrot on a trip to Westminster Abbey”).

Bumping this up because I still think it would be an absolutely killer feature.

To be able to append text AND urls to an album would be a dream.

From the community guidelines:

Rather than posting “+1” or “Agreed”, use the Like button.

Likewise, “bumping” has no impact, but voting for a feature suggestion may.

Bonjour,
Serait-il possible d’avoir un espace dédié aux notes personnelles en regard des morceaux ?
Ces notes resteraient en “local”, non partagées et donc, n’alourdiraient pas le système.
Au plaisir de vous lire. Patrick.

Hello,
Would it be possible to have a space dedicated to personal notes alongside the songs?
These notes would remain “local,” not shared, and therefore would not slow down the system.
I look forward to hearing from you. Patrick.

I am wondering if it’s possible to be able to create a small personal note for each track in my library. For example I find that there is a optimal volume level for different track and I would love to be able to add that instead of messing with the volume . Yes I am lazy.

I’ve moved your post and merged it with the existing Feature Suggestion.

Well this is clearly a feature that could make Roon even more appealing. Roon is the only hi-res streaming service (that I know) that runs over own server. So adding own notes, text, to albums/songs perfectly fits with it as one can store as much “written material” as needed on own server.

I see an hi vote rate but no attention by devs though…
